View Full Version : A clever checkraise? Or a dumb one?

Ok villain is 37/21 with 2.08 AF When he caps the flop, I put him on 77, A6, a flush draw, or 89. A flush or straight draw might not cap though, this guy isn't overly aggro and it looks like i have monster. The turn completed the 89 straight so I figured I'd risk the free card to flush draw and check. So when he checks through its obvious he has a flush draw. I figured the only way I'd get some money is if he paired or wants to bluff it after my odd river check. He might pay off with a jack or T, he might not. I was pretty sure he'd bet one though, especially the jack. So I figured a checkraise could induce a bluff, and be so weird that it very well might get 2 from a weaker pair. Clever or stupid? Also, is the turn check real bad?

I'll vote clever. I don't like checking the turn though.

too great a chance he has a flushdraw?

If he is indeed on a flush draw, why on earth would you give him a chance at a free card?

Bet the turn, call down if raised.

I think a flush draw is quite likely. Some other random worse hand that he'll call down with is possible too.

well I figure the random worse hand is betting this turn anyway, right? Unless you think it's decently likely he'll be willing to put in 2 with a worse hand like 88 or 99.

I think he's more likely to have a flush draw though

yea I guess you're right. There are a lot more possible flush draw combos a semi-loose player could have than there are hands that beat me. Also a decent play holding a hand that beats me will often call my flop 3bet and raise the turn.

youre thinking on the river is correct IMO. He will bet any hand he is calling with. Youre river check makes it look like AK-AQ.

Its obvious he cant beat AA when he checks the turn, so youd have to bet a big pair right? When you dont bet he will value bet most pairs expecting to get called by A high.

Whether or not to bet the turn is another issue and close IMO but a bet is probably better. He may very well have just a 7.

About how many combos of flush draws do you think he can have?

For the love of money, bet the turn.
