View Full Version : Bad Play by Me, or Bad Beat?

$5 tourney on Interpoker...about 70 people...Kongen had shoved all in 2nd hand with 8's, and tripled up, and had then lost a few in a row...could tell he was a loose, bad player...
We both had give or take the same amount of chips at the start of the hand.
Or did I play this wrong?

Obviously this is a bad play. Always fold KK preflop because gutshot straight draws can sometimes draw out on you.

In actuality, you did play the hand incorrectly on the river. If you think you are ahead, why are you trying to scare him out of the pot with an all-in bet unless you think he is going to call it. I suppose it's not a bad play if you wanted to make it look like a steal, as long as you had a reason for the bet. I really don't mind the rest of it.

Thanks for the sarcastic response...the only reason I posted this is because someone at the table told me I played the hand bad and deserved it.

The reason I went all in, is because I thought he would call it...I guess I was right.

Yeah, well, those $5 tourney players are the experts.

I probably bet the flop though if he is that loose. I'm looking to get his chips more gradually than check/small bet/shove all-in. Gives him too much of a chance to fold the river. More like small bet/medium bet/the rest.

Against a fishy player there is no need to play it this slow on the flop and the turn. Waiting for the other guy to see all 5 cards before making some massive all-in bet just isn't the best line. None of that is to minimize the bad beat aspect of it, but when you're up against a guy who will chase gutshots and call with bottom pair and stuff like that, you actually have to make him pay for chasing.

The way you played it, his pre-flop call is loose but debatable, and you didn't force him to make a mistake on any other street. I don't even know if this qualifies as a bad beat.

I dunno - a bet on the flop helps - but if he don't fold, he's got 8 outs on the turn, so you're boned -

[censored] happens - I wouldn't say bad play per se - you tried trapping him and he slipped it - [censored] happens -

I don't know if offering a guy a little over 3-1 to make his 11.5-1 gutshot on the turn can be considered not forcing him into a mistake.

Unfortunately, with the push, the implied odds just about makes his play correct. Of course, he couldn't have known you were going to give him all your chips.

He was open ended on the turn.. not gutshot.

This is what happens when keeping it real goes wrong.
