Dunno, I didn't really have any specific reads but my plan was on check calling to the end. Should I have bet the turn?

having just spent some time at the .5/1 level, I can say the players there are like annoying little gnats who make no sense whatsoever in any of their decisions. I would definately have bet the turn here.

I bet at 5/10 or 10/20 too. Stupid capping for a free card.
