Hi,

I've heard that the Red Cross has assembled an online database of the New Orleans survivors that have been rescued and where they were taken. I need to search it for a few names, but I'm having trouble finding it. I figured if I posted it on here, some people might be able to find it before I can.

They don't mention it in their press releases (http://www.redcross.org/press/0,1079,0_314_,00.html).

The American Red Cross website we seem to be where that information would be.

I'm not sure how accurate this stuff is. Most of the numbers that I attempted to dial last night were not operating.

If it makes any difference, my family was unable to reach my stepfather for two days, and he was in the sort of situation where we assumed he'd have the most access to communication. There's just simply no way to get through. Have you tried texting their cell phone? This seems to work even if you can't connect with a call.

There's no Red Cross site as far as I know. The local chapter's site is here: http://www.arcno.org/

You might be better off just calling the red cross and asking?

It's obviously overwhelmed with calls. Also, they've specifically asked for no calls regarding the welfare of individuals.

Thank you Megan,

I hope your family is safe. It looks like I couldn't find this database because it doesn't yet exist.

Another good resource:

My family seems to be accounted for, although the hard-headed stepfather is still in New Orleans working. Hope everything turns out just as well for you.

Isn't anyone else disturbed that CNN is doing this list and not our federal government?

Also, someone posted about text messages - this is true, so note it or the future. If you're ever in an emergency and can't get through by calling, try texting. Test messages work a little like email and go out when the line is clear, so it's more likely they'll go through.

I have never sent a text message before until this week...After about 50, I've actually gotten a bit good at it, and every single one has gotten through the New Orleans cellular network.

I think our federal government is way too busy chasing terrorists in Saudi Arabia!

Ed....a friend just emailed me this. It's a blog update from an evacuee in West Memphis, but it has some lists.

Maybe there will be something helpful there.
