View Full Version : Second most popular game?
Phil Hellmuth says in his book: "Omaha eight or better (O8B) is the world's second most popular poker game right now"
Is it really that popular?

Well, Texas Hold'em has about 90% of the room share - live - these days. After that Stud, Stud/8 and Omaha/8 divide up the rest.
I would say that low limit stud has an edge over Omaha/8.
This is based on Midwest and Vegas play. I hear the East Coast still has stud games.

So, is stud dying?

It is where I play, yes. Not that I have much problem with 1-5 stud games going away.

I believe O8 is a lot more popular overseas then it is in North America and gets more room share then Hold'em over there. Just what I remember hearing once, can't verify that it's true.

Yes, I understand this to be true. Omaha in all it's formats is very populare in Europe. There's also a 5-card sort of Omaha played in France...Chevalier? Maybe?

It was three years ago, when he wrote the book. Nowadays, it depends where you are. In Europe and the South, it's Omaha high; in the West, it's O8 (?) and on the East Coast it's stud.
