What is the current price of gas in your area? I asked my boss to check when he went to grab lunch, and this is what he handed me when he got back.

Filled up for $2.65 this morning. Very weird. There were two places directly across the street from each other with an $.08 difference in price.

You are correct, there isn't much you can do about it. I drive to/from work 80 miles round trip 6 days a week. That's a lot of miles, and many people drive more than that.

That said, I find the differences in gas prices across the country interesting. There is a big difference just along my commute of up to $.2/gal.

Nice pic. It's $2.75 or so out here in Rochester, NY. I don't pay any attention to the price of anything but the "cheap" stuff.

I filled up the Honda this morning for 2.89 per gallon. Earlier this week that very station charged 2.50. I'm starting to think this is some sort of massive psychological experiment set up by the government. They want to see what our breaking point is, and will keep jacking up the prices until the riots start. Fuckers.

But it's simple economics. They keep raising prices but consumption does not go down. This is a supplier's dream, charge more and see no decrease in sales volume. Why not raise the prices more to see how high they can get it?

Do the math. If motor oil is $2.69 a quart, four quarts to a gallon, 42 gallons to a barrel, they're getting nearly $116/barrel for the stuff. I think they had a pretty hefty price margin already. But expect a price increase soon.

also most analysts are expecting it to continue to rise a decent amount:

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Consumers can expect retail gas prices to rise to $4 a gallon in the near future, a pricing analyst said Wednesday.

"There's no question gas will hit $4 a gallon," Ben Brockwell, director of pricing at the Oil Price Information Service, said. "The question is how high will it go and how long will it last?"

OPIS tracks wholesale and retail oil prices and provides pricing information for AAA's daily reports on fuel prices.

Brockwell said with gasoline prices now exceeding $3 a gallon before even reaching the wholesale level, it "doesn't take a genius" to expect retail prices to hit $4 a gallon soon.

"Consumers haven't seen the worst of it yet," Brockwell said.
