View Full Version : Bad luck or bad call?

08-31-2005, 08:33 AM
I'm playing on PS this morning on the $1.20 45 man tourney. My opponent this hand has been calling about 45% of the hands before the flop and raising about 15% of the time. So, he's very active and has had to hit on the turn a time or two to make his hand. I'm trying to decide if I made a bad call or it was just bad luck when he turned over the hand he did. My stack size is a tad bit over average for the tourney at this point.

you're prolly gonna wanna fold preflop. its tough to do i know, but you have to.

the guy is raising with three early position limpers already and you're out of position and theres the possibility of domination.

Well I was getting 3.75 to 1 on my money to call so I don't think the preflop call was incorrect. If this had been a tight player then I would probably agree with you but he had been loose and aggressive since we sat down. I appreciate the comment.

The only thing I would be concerned about is why did he raise 3 limpers to 3xBB. That looks like a big pair. Of course villain could be a miniraising fish.

3.75:1 in a 4way pot and you could be dominated and you're going to play the hand out of position the whole way. i still think this is a fold. unless you flop trip queens, theres no flop where u know ur ahead.

I do see your point. Sure as heck would've saved me a lot of money if I had!

Are you freaking kidding me????? I've seen this raise happen with QJ at $20 buyin tournaments.

This is a $1.20 tournament.

You played the hand perfectly. Bad luck. Cards happen.

no im not kidding. its a 4 way pot and the guy raised three limpers to just 3xBB. AND THE FACT THAT HE MADE SUCH A SMALL RAISE SCREAMS MONSTER!! that always happens in these small buy in tournies.

granted, i prolly woulda called too but i need to start making this laydown on a more consistent basis.

as for postflop, u did play teh hand perfectly

Not in a $1.20. There are times and opponents where it's correct to fold but this is not one of them. His hand range is huge when our only read is tournament buyin.

If I'm playing in the $500k guaranteed I'm folding AQo here. Not in a $1.20 5 table sng.

ur right, but i just hate getting busted with AQ in tournies when im dominated the whole way

breaks my /images/graemlins/heart.gif

Ha, it broke my heart too. But I'm glad to know that you guys didn't think I completely blew the call.
