Tough one. James Bond is the obvious one. I can't think of any others.

"Jack Ryan" of the Tom Clancy series of novels comes close. Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Afflek have all starred as Jack.

Were there 4? I can think of 3. Lois Maxwell, Samantha Bond, and Timothy Dalton's Moneypenny. Who was the fourth?

(And if you say the on in Never Say Never Again, I will ask the mods to ban you. It doesn't exist.)

I can't think of one of the top of my head, but there surely is a movie that takes place over the span of someone's lifetime which required 4 actors played the same character in the same movie.

Right?

I think three would be the max: Baby, Adolescent, Adult. Old Guy you can do with makeup.

Ah. An Altman fan?

I don't know, I only watched it once. I'm a big fan of the Marlowe novels by Raymond Chandler; I've read them all a bunch of times. I don't think Marlowe does well updated. That character just doesn't seem at home anywhere but in '40s LA. And Gould just doesn't seem tough enough to play him.

I didn't like Mitchum either; too old.
