I was wondering if people ever attempted to calculate the odds of a concidence happening. I went to the Lizzie Borden murder house on vacation and the next day My girlfriends mom read a random question out of a trivia book with 5000 questions and the question asked about the lizzie borden house murder.
What are the odds of going to a place and then having someone who has not clue about it open a book with 5000 questions and randomly pick the one about the place you went to the day before!?

Its pretty hard to calculate the odds of this happening, but a couple years ago our family went camping in the north eastern states, and we are from near Toronto, Ontario, we met someone else from the same place as us at one campground, at the next campground we stayed at they were camping right beside our site, and 2 campgrounds later, they were right across from us. We were going camping in a fairly random set of campgrounds, not like a set path where all people going in that direction would stay at the same campgrounds.

Lizzie Borden's ghost has been known to do this kind of thing a lot. Keep an eye on any axes lying around.

The odds are clearly > 1/5000.

The odds of something like this happening on the first question are:

# of things that you did in the trivia book the day before / 5000

Since we are throwing around our odd ball stories I have one too. One night I had a dream that I was at class at my university when waves started hitting out building and flooded the whole town, and we were stuck in the top of the building and on the roof. Than I wake up turn Fox News Channel and hear about the tsunami. That has to be the biggest coincodence of my life (only time ive dreamed of a flood). Well that or I am psychic and am just learning, /images/graemlins/wink.gif , but I think the first option is a lot more likely.

the other day i was playing poker and there was a dude named "sea of salt". Right as i noticed him and was thinking about that phrase, kurt cobain said "sea of salt" in the song that was playing. It was perfectly timed.
