View Full Version : Non-Texas hold'em games

I was wondering if anybody else clears bonuses with a game other than Texas Hold'em?

Is it any easier to clear bonuses playing, say Omaha 8/b? Or, Stud 8/b? I am pinpointed high/low games because people at low stakes like to stay in forever hoping to hit their 1 outers for half the pot. Seems every hand would be raked.

If anybody does this, how soft are the other games on various sites? Are usual rock gardens (such as UB) any softer at Omaha 8/b tables?

Crazy Pineapple at Paradise (1/2) will clear bonus really fast. Haven't tried it yet, but I think you can also play it at SportsBook, since that's really Paradise.

Clearing bonus using Crazy Pineapple at UB is very slow, since it's a .25/.50 game. But it might be faster than Hold 'Em.

Crazy Pineapple is also pretty soft at both sites, since few people know how to play it. But if you can figure it out, it's a pretty nice change.

I love clearing bonuses at 5-card draw when it's available. They're always full of idiots (I love people limping, completeing a SB, or even calling a raise and then drawing 4 or 5 cards) and I seem to be pretty decent at it.

i find omaha8 very fast for clearing (at low limits) and i use it more then HE for bonus whoring. slightly less hands/hr but every pot gets to the necessary level

Stud/8 is great for contributed bonuses, which are usually calculated for holdem. Bodog especially.

Limit Omaha/8 is good for bonus clearing at low limits because the average pot size is usually much larger and thus more hands qualify as raked. However, the hands are slower so it's best for bonus clearing at sites like PokerStars where the pot size must reach $15 at limit $1/$2 to earn an FPP point. Of course, the catch is that to do this you actually have to play Omaha/8, and if you don't know what you're doing then you're not any better off.

O8 and stud8. PLO too depending on the site.

Fun, yes. Soft games, yes. But fast? Definitely not. With 5-7 people seeing each flop, and everybody having to discard on the flop it is MUCH slower than Texas Hold'em.

I wish Pardise had Crazy P. H/L under 3/6!!!

But ya it does slow down the process with usually around 4 having to discard, but the pots to get big for 1/2.

I usually see 40-45 hands/table/hr. Virtually every hand will qualify as raked. You could do worse. Add in the novelty factor, and it's not a bad way to go.

I agree there should be a lower limit H/L game. And I'd LOVE to see a CP SNG.

I play low-limit O/8 at Party/skins to clear bonuses. I usually 3-table, which gives me 100-120 raked hands per hour. O/8 is basically a pre-flop game, so you don't have to concentrate as much on post-flop play. Once you learn low limit O/8, it is pretty much auto-pilot. I just cleared the Empire reload pretty quickly (probably 8-10 hours for a $100 bonus), and also won 110BB on the 1000 raked hands.

I've found I can't get results this good at Paradise or Stars because of the limited availability of games, tighter players, and slower games.

definetly. stud is a great way to clear those bonuses that need your $ in the pot

I am not so concerned about party/skins. The hold'em games are soft enough there that it doesn't matter to me what I play.

However, at the rock gardens such as UB, are the other games softer than the hold'em games? Or do the tight hold'em sites translate into tight everywhere?

On UB, I'd be looking to play either O8/b or perhaps Triple Draw 2-7. Are those games softer than the hold'em games at the 1/2 level?

1/2 TD is extremely soft when no one from the Other Poker crowd is on there, and we're usually easy to identify. It's also the limit that runs the most, and if there isn't a table running it's usually pretty easy to start one. People who don't realize it's lowball/straights and flushes are bad are fairly common.

I have no clue how 1/2 holdem at UB plays, though, but I'm pretty sure nearly everyone is familiar with the rules.

Thanks, timprov. I will have to try out the 1/2 TDL games at UB. I am a reletive novice at it, other than reading and re-reading the Super System 2 section, and playing about 200 hands of the play chip games. However, even being a novice, I may have more of an edge against the field than the hold'em field.
