Someone in the IRC channel had a really good one earlier today, but I can't remember it, so I'm coming here for more recommedations. The catalog is like 25k songs, so if it's ever been a popular song, they have it.

Right now, the list is:

Journey - Seperate Ways
Styx - Lorelei

So, what are your favorite karaoke songs? Any video of Daliman makes this thread better.

My three faves are:

Meatloaf - I Would Do Anything For Love

Karaoke is lame, but "Motorin'" by Night Ranger is clearly the correct answer.

these are three songs that thousands of people butcher in karaoke bars around the world every night of the year. plus the first two are long and slow so they pretty much suck to hear anyway.

when i do sing karaoke (2 or 3 times a year maybe) i don't do it to impress others, i do it cause i'm wasted and want to sing ridiculous songs.

if you're a serious karaoke singer then we're on completely different pages.

plus, it's easy to make the songs fun, just because they're slow.

no i'm not serious. just personally i prefer to hear and sing more upbeat and shorter songs, and from my experience so does everyone else in the bar. just the other night we were at a karaoke bar and this guy was doing an incredible rendition of "Paradise City." but that song is 8 minutes long. after the 15th time through the chorus everyone was definitely over it.

Alright, nobody better steal these because they are my bit.

Styx - Mr Roboto complete with robor coreography
Afroman - Cuz I got high always a crowd pleaser
Hall and Oates - anything, these guys are gold.

and I definitely plan on including more Nightranger and foreigner in my repertoire.

I definitely agree with BEP here, keep the songs short and sweet. If I pick a super long song, I usually just walk off stage once it starts getting repetitive. The key to good karaoke has nothing to do with singing, it's all in the stage presence.

Billy Ocean - Loverboy
Dean Martin - Ain't That a Kick in the Head
Cameo - Word Up

Clearly the correct answer is Young MC, Bust a Move. You have to break out some dance moves during the musical interludes though, so this one can be dangerous.

Since so many people like to do slow songs, I always like to throw in something short and fast, like The Doors, Break on Through. Those who know me will likely find that selection surprising, which makes it even better.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that, for the vast majority of people reading this forum, performing dance moves is a very bad idea. Just a hunch.

P.S. I'm part of the two-left-feet club myself.

given that it was done by a group of 19-20yr old kids, 1/2 of whom had never heard it before, and who were all extremely drunk, i have a feeling it didnt rock.

Also, I have fun doing adult contemporary songs from the 70's and 80's that are duets (but singing them solo). I especially like "Love lifts us up where we belong".

I haven't done Karaoke in years. But I'm definitely gonna have to try "Paradise by the Dashboard Light". I did "Love Shack" with a couple of girls once, that went over well.

Last time I went to Karaoke was on a cruise ship, that sailed out of Galveston. Lots of Texans on board. I've always felt that picking a song the audience likes will go over ten times better than picking a song you're good at. I don't know any country songs (and would sound stupid if I tried one in my Boston accent), so I took a page out of the Blues Brothers' book, and did "Rawhide". Worked like a charm.

Sinatra has always been my strong suit, and I never found an audience that didn't like "NY, NY" or "My Way". But I'm not doing either if we've already heard it two or three times that night.

The only one I've ever done was Kung Fu Fighting. A buddy of mine and I used to get drunk and sing this song almost every week at this one bar. It was terrible...

I have sang "I need a hero" and it was pretty bad! Good times though.
I went to a japanese karaoke bar with a japanese friend of mine (of course) and everybody was singing those japanese pop songs and dancing... It was hilarious.

Anyone know all the lyrics to "Barnacle Bill the Sailor"?
It would really piss my wife off.
I have an 8 year old daughter.

I should clarify: My daughter would love it.
I don't care if it pisses my wife off.
