Keeps randomly locking up

It started after I updated windows and installed the [censored] "genuine windows" checker thing. Everything will just freeze. Nothing responds and I have to hit the reset button.

The only programs I'm running are:
MIRC, GAIM, firefox, winamp, avast!, kerio personal firewall, google talk and ultramon (helps manage dual monitors)

I recently started using google talk too but I was using it for a few days before I installed the windows thing and it was fine. Also, you can't [censored] uninstall the windows checker. I ran stuff to search for spyware and found nothing. I have no idea what else to do. Everything seems fine.

Bump. I stopped using google talk and it's still happening. I really don't want to reinstall windows. Someone help?

you could look at the event viewer logs to see if there is anyting there like a error?
right click on "My Computer"
select "manage"
click on the + next to "Event Viewer"
and look through the Application and System logs at arount the time it locked up.
There might be something there that shows what wqas happening
