After lurking awhile on these forums, I guess I shouldn't be surprised by things like this...

[ QUOTE ]
Among the 30% of Americans who went to a casino during the past year, more than half came out even or won more than they lost.

20% Won more than lost
33% Came out even
43% Lost more than won

[/ QUOTE ]

I wonder if the "30% of Americans going to a casino" part is even correct?

(the original graphic is at this link original link in flash (http://yahoo.usatoday.com/news/snapshot.htm?section=N&label=2005-08-18-id&csp=1) it's in flash, under the section Money, item 11 of 20)

That seems like it could be right, but my guess is that there are actually more who lost - I think a lot of people who may have lost a bit will respond to a survey by saying that they "broke even"

Oh no! My favorite casinos must be teetering on the verge of bankruptcy since over half their patrons don't donate a dime!!!! /images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Truth: IMO, on average, most winners win $100 or so, Breakeveners probably lost $100 or so but consider the free drinks and entertainment value in their assessment, Losers dropped $500+.
