Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
I consider this not only their best album, but the best album of all time. Intricately detailed and with a strong attention to its thematic development, this is not just 4 solid songs, but a cohesive piece that delights me on every listen.

Paul Simon - Graceland
Widely acclaimed when it came out, and for good reason. Certainly a thousand times better than anything he did with Fartimus Garfunkle, this album is varied and again musically interesting. Simon's lyrics are the centerpiece, but don't let that distract you from the magnificent collaboration with Ladysmith Black Mambazo and other talented artists.

Fantômas - Fantômas
A very interesting album that is so genre-bending I can only call it experimental. That doesn't mean it's unstructured - quite the opposite. It blends hard rock and electronic to create an astounding concept piece. It features a superstar line-up too: Mike Patton (of Faith No More and many more), Buzz Osborne (of the Melvins), Trevor Dunn (of Mr. Bungle, another Mike Patton project), and none other than Dave Lombardo (of Slayer). To quote Danny Devito, "Fantômas blew me away. They are super out of this world beyond! Mike Patton is a genius."

I'm more into jazz now, but I have to say Iron Maiden, Number of the Beast, is a must have. Every song is just really great.

Get a best of Jobim collection if you're into jazz. No vocals or Jobim sings or anything, just bestof with some female vocals.

And to round you out, get a cd set or best of of Willie Nelson. He's really good. I like his classic country songs, but his recent stuff where he just goes crazy and does Big Band stuff is interesting too. I guess go with the mega 8cd best of or whatever.

Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (2002)

[/ QUOTE ]

When this album first came out, I couldn't care less.

Now, however, they are by and far my favorite band out today. I can't wait to see them in Austin in 3 weeks.

As for my reccomendations (I'm going to avoid repeats, but I haven't read all replies):

Kanye West - Late Registration
The Double - Loose in the Air
Gorillaz - Demon Days /images/graemlins/heart.gif /images/graemlins/heart.gif

I also definitely approve of Bloc Party, Interpol, Arcade Fire and Common.
