I just snagged a set of those 11.5g weighted chip sets on eBay....I have 500 chips total and 5 colors to choose from.

I feel 3 colors would be enough, maybe 4, however what colors should I use? Now a little back ground, I have a bi-monthly ring game that's a $40 buy in...PLUS our new trend it to host tournaments with a tourney chip of T500.

So I'm thinking
150 red = T5 (could be used as $5 in ring game)
150 green = T25 (could be used 25c in ring game)
150 white? = (used as $1 in ring game) (are these going to get dirty over time?? Maybe blue?)
50 black = T100 (or $10/$20 'big-chip' in ring game)

or should I go with 200/150/150?? 3-color? if so what colors? /forums/images/icons/confused.gif

If anyone out there has a similar 500 chip set I would be thrilled for some experience/suggestions! THANKS!

I'd stick with the standard colors and make white $1. If you want 4 colors, use the blues for tournament T500 or T1000, and the typical $0.50 (antes in stud games, or something)
Cut down on the greens, regardless of what you do, depending on the game bet ranges that you ususally spread (with $40 buyins, can't be that high).

Hey there Larry...I am thinking of buying a set of those myself. Just my personality...I like to be original, so I like the pastel colors for chips... pink - $1, orange - $5 - etc..

It depends on what limits your ring games are -
if you're playing 1-2 up to 3-6, you want more whites than anything for your ring game. 5-10 and above, you want more reds obviously. Same thing with the tournament...what are your structures going to be? What are the blinds? etc...

If you are going to stick with color tradition, don't use blue for $1. Use white. As far as getting them dirty...have the players wash their hands and no eating at the table /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

Well, I did get blue, it was suggested that the white would get dirty. As for the chipset...I suggest eBay, the auctions that end in the 'wee' hours in the morning are trend to be the lowest. I also suggest using www.auctionsniper.com (http://www.auctionsniper.com) I've used it for months and love it. Plus, when you win a chip set of 500 you still get to choose colors (I used fivestardeal). Good luck.

Hi. I have been considering get a set of those chips off of Ebay for several weeks but also am considering getting a set of clay chips that are closer to what is used in a casino. (We play for such small stakes I think it would be hard to justify real clay chips).

Just wondering how you like the chips and roughly what you paid for them on Ebay.

Thanks /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif .

I got the 11.5 gram clay filled chips and broke them in real good this weekend. They are great...and the set of 500 allowed a tournament style of play. I got the Oak case, which I recommend, due to the fact that it has 5 pull out trays that can contain 100 chips each.

I got the set for $99 off eBay by using www.auctionsniper.com (http://www.auctionsniper.com) which allowed me to 'snipe' the set while being offline, during the last 4 seconds of the auction. +$15 shipping, a great deal. Good luck with your shopping!!
