View Full Version : Who met their August Goals? And what are your new ones for Septmeber?

I saw the old thread got bumped, and it's getting kinda big so i thought i'd just make a new one. So, restate your August goals and whether or not you met them, and then your goals for September. (We still have a few days left for August, so your time isn't up yet.) I'm busy packing for college, so i thought i'd start this thread now while i had time.

My August Goals were:

1.) Log at least 30,000 hands at 10-20 6 max

2.) Make at least 10k after rakeback

3.) Have fun outside of poker!

I've logged about 29,000 hands for the month, so i'll probably hit 30k. So goal 1 is in the bag.

I actually moved to 20-40 this month, so i easily exceeded my financial goals for the month.

I had a great last month here hanging out with friends, so i would so goal 3 was met as well.

Here are my goals for September in order of importance:

1.) Meet a ton of cool new people at college and make it a great experience

2.) Keep in touch with the people who are important to me, and maybe make some trips to turning stone with my buddy Mike.

3.) Try to balance poker well with school, adapt to playing a little less, but still try to clear 10k or more per month.

So how about you guys?

didn't have any august goals.

My september goals are

1. Find a Job

2. 30k hands of 3/6

3. 3k in profits

I wanted to be playing 15/30 full time by the end of August, and I got up to 20/40. Success.

For September my goals are to keep running hot, and get in 75 hours of playing time.

no august goals but time to make some for sept.

1) log 30k 3/6 hands (shoot for $3.5K)
2) work on hand reading, 3 tables at most
3) pay off school/bills/etc
4) take shots at 5/10
5) read archives (5 hours a week)

I met my August goals for the most part -- posted about that in the other thread. Basically, this month I moved up to 2/6 6max, played 25K hands 4 tabling, and won $2500 + rakeback and bonuses.

Sept looks like this:
* 16K online hands. (Less than last month since I'll be away in Vegas for a week.)

* Keep studying shorthanded play and keep working on my game. I think I have some of the right ideas, but there are several hands a night where I feel like I completely f'ed up. Post a smattering of those hands.

* Go to Vegas at the end of the month, have fun. Play as high as 10/20, if the games look good. Play some small-ish buy in tournaments for fun.

* Run good while in Vegas. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

* Move up to 5/10 6max?

On that note, I'm debating what to do about moving up to 5/10. I'm way overrolled for 3/6 -- something like 1500BBs. And I've been a winner thus far at 3/6, over my small sample size of 25K.

I feel comfortable for the most part, but like I mentioned above, I feel like I play several hands quite badly each night. I'm trying to decide if I should move up anyway, or if I should patch all these potential leaks now.

Anyhow, I'll probably move up sometime this month, but I'm not sure when.

Good luck to all on their goals!

Currently at 3/6 6max
1. Still 5K hands to go for August to meet my 25K goal(day job)
2. Post 30K for September w/ more than 2BB/100(sort of tough because I'm moving)
3. Control spewing and follow my instincts
4. Increase my blind steal to atleast 30% (currently at 27%)
5. Get ready to move to 5/10 (50K 3/6 and 1000BB for 5/10 is the goal) by the end of the month
6. Read TOP/SSH again, improve my poker math(correct phrase?), post more hands and involve in the strategy discussion on the forum
7. Avoid the temptation to add a 3rd table no matter how good the table is - I just suck playing more than 2 tables of 6max

ggbman and others who have posted in this thread, remember to bump this thread at the end of the month to see where we stand.

GL all.

I like your style. I'm going to try and take on your billion hands/month methods after October.

For August, I met my goals, and hopefully September's will be easy.

1. Play 22.5k hands at 5/10, possibly 3/6 if I stop running so good.

2. >2bb/100 for those 20k hands at 5/10.

3. $5,000

4. Religiously study postings in HUSH on my freetime.

The amount of hands is going to be greatly dependent on the amount of golf I play. I could play 10k hands or I could play 35k hands.

If I posted any August goals I didnt meet them. Thats for sure. It was a bad month and I spent a good few days burnt out from the trough that is variance.

For September I want to finish my OIC that I started a few days ago. I'm at 1/2 right now getting ready to start. After $300 won I'm moving to 3/6. I havent decided if I want to go stop at 5/10 for the OIC or continue to 15/30.

I have never played above 3/6 and I just dont know how different the play is. I guess I will see once I get there. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I didn't come close to this month. At the beginning they were $2500, 25k hands, and to order my laptop (for work and poker). I got only the third goal accomplished, and the first one changed to 'break even or better' after week #1 (I've easily made that goal).

Next month the same modest goals will apply, but now that I can play while visiting family and going on business trips the hand #s will be easier to handle.

i was a total slack last month about poker so i guess i will post some goals.

-30k hands at 10-20 and make 10k.
-continue working out and being somewhat healthy and get below 200.
-find something to do other than poker, booze and working out.

My goals were to play 20-30 hours a week before school started, and I only averaged about 13 hours a week. I also wanted to move up to 5/10, and I almost had 400 BB to take a shot, but ended up dropping a grand in a day playing 3/6, then forced to cash out a bunch to pay for various school related expenses, so I've actually regressed to 1/2 for the time being. So, in conclusion, I fell horribly short.

My September goals are now get back to 3/6, which shouldn't be hard at all with a ton of rakeback coming in plus the rediculously soft 1/2 games, log 15k hands combined at 1/2 and 3/6, and try and rebuild my roll to a point where I'll be able to take a shot at 5/10 either towards the end of September or the beginning of October.

Just checked . . . my goals were:
-----------------
1) Play SH like I played in July.
2) Learn how in the hell to play in the NLHE 33s when my stack is ~5x the size of the SB+BB. I may do great at 10/20 but when it comes to a tiny little NLHE SNG I suck major ass.
-----------------
I was pretty much successful at #1. Had a great month, for the most part . . . there were two or three nasty days, but I'm ending the month at around 4BB/100, so I guess I can't complain. Pretty much stuck to my A-game . . . though I just dropped a bunch of $$ about five minutes ago and goddammit I want to head back and make it back, auuuuuughhh! Serenity now, serenity now . . . I know better, definitely not in the right state of mind to do that.
#2, I gave up on. Screw the NL tournies. Going to concentrate on Stud8 and 7Stud.

my goals were
1) get out of my breakeven funk
2) quit my job and learn more about playing poker for a living.

1) http://www.valleyvisions.net/pokerimages/august hands.jpg
2) Read "Professional Poker" (good read for players that make the switch of playing as a side job, to full time). And my last day is Sept. 2

Didn't have an August goal but my goal for September is to log at least 15,000 hands (which is a lot for me) 4 tabling 5/10.

Might also try an OIC just for fun.

My goals were simple.

1) Make up for my first losing month in July.

I have made up for my losses and although the month is not finished yet am very close to beating my best month (April). I also managed to accomplish that in 1/3rd of the time and 2 tables instead of 4. Played 15/30 verus 10/20.

08-29-2005, 03:48 AM
My August goals were

1.) Learn what is SH limit is ( I switched from NL25 full)

2.) Make $500.

I did both /images/graemlins/smile.gif

My August goals

1.) Play 80 hours

2.) Make 1.5K

3.) Take a shot at $2-$4

August: I didn't have HUSH dreams. I was sick of SNGs. I wanted to learn how to play poker not ICM, pushing & calling ranges. Playing 8 tables doesn't allow you to know everything about your opponent. SH games certainly allow that freedom.

Mid-August: Began by playing the 3/6 6-m games and was hoping to beat them. Fast forward one heater and approximate 14 days later I can play 5/10.

The Sept goal: play a statistically signifcant number of hands in September @ 5/10 and prove I'm a winner. Then re-evaluate.

My august goals were:
1) Play as much as I can. I dont think a money goal is very good, even Pros have losing months.
2) Read Theory of Poker and Inside the Poker mind.
3) Take a shot at 5/10 when I feel ready.

Played 20k hands which is more than I played any month before. Read both books and am doing great at 5/10.
Great month although I had bad swings (especially when moving up to 5/10, makes the transition a lot tougher)!

Goals for September:
1) Play 20k+ hands.
2) Read King Yaos book and "How good is your limit holdem?"
3) Dont take a shot at 10/20. This one will probably be the hardest. Up to now I moved up when I had 10k-15k hands on one limit. I should probably play at least 40k hands on 5/10 before I start thinking about 10/20 but I am veery ambitious and will likely feel ready before that mark.
4) Dont add a 4th table, 3 seems perfect right now.

It ll be interesting to look back to this after next month /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I took the fam on vacation for two weeks this month, so I didn't set any goals knwoing full well I wouldn't meet them.

That said, I ended up making the jump to 10/20 so that underlines my goal for September...

3) Buy my wife some nice jewelry

After living without a phone line for the last 3 months, I'm finally able to play some poker, so I might as well post some goals:

1) 5k hands at 3/6 6-max while I get back into playing mode. Maybe less if I feel I'm playing/thinking well.
2) 15k+ hands at 5/10 6-max.
3) Wet me feet at 10/20 6-max by playing 1-2 tables for at least 2k hands.
4) Play 4k hands of NL, probably at the lowest level since I've never really played before.
5) Play 2k hands of HU on .02/.04 PS. Yeah, big money. I do need to at least prove that I can kill the fish, though.
6) Play at least 8 rounds of golf.
7) Lose weight. I don't care how much. I just need to get below 200 pounds. I'd guess I'm 205-210.
8) Figure out who I'm going to root for next year because the Cubbies have broken my heart once again.

He's right. Cubs fans are probably the happiest losers of all time. They'll always show up to the ballpark, smile, laugh, drink warm beer. They love it.

Sox fans are terribly self-loathing, especially the new breed. I mean, these people were booing Foulke!! And Bellhorn and Embree (ok those two or almost justifiable). These guys just won you a world series LAST YEAR. Wait a few before groaning like your world is crumbling.

And now for some goals:

2. Study my play and poker more.
3. Value bet more / pay off less.
4. Get better at my real job.

I failed miserably at my 40k hands goal due to excess traveling. I did, however, run like a total luckbox. Unfortunately, like sthief, this was not one of my goals.

I'm lowering my expectation to 20k hands this month, which is going to be super hard since I'll be out of comission with moving, surgery, etc for at least half the month.

Oh, and I'm adding the goal of being a total luckbox, so I can feel like i've achieved something by the end of the month.

As of right now, I'm at 59.30hrs and 12,416 hands (excluding dicking around in 2p2 games and occasional small stakes games). I guess I suck though this is still a quite above average month for me in terms of playing. Maybe in these next two days I can do 8hr days and still get there [doubtful].

-12 hrs/week...so that means around 15k hands
-fully adjust to and get used to playing 10/20 6m
-run average...which would be much better than the last month and a half...which would mean probably +$3k-$4k
-stop getting pwned by LAGs
-start playing some small stakes NL (prob NL100)
-do well in school in what is likely my toughest schedule thus far

My goal for august was to play 20k hands at 10/20 SH.
I failed since I was somewhat lazy. I only managed to play 18.5k hands. I had problems with motivating myself to play "enough".

Now I have played a little more than 50k at 10/20 and feel somewhat "comfortable" at the limit. I have started to think about going to the next limit, but it's been a long time since I played full ring and looking for tables with 3-5 players seems annoying. So I guess I am "stuck" at 10/20 until I figure out what I should do next. I am happy with the money I've made at 10/20 and really don't "need" to make more per month, but I think the longer I play at the same limit and the more hands/month I play the less motivated I will get.

Goals for september:
1) Play 20k hands at 10/20 SH.
2) Write down all difficult hands while I am playing and analyse them later.
3) Figure out if I want to keep playing the 10/20 game or try to move on to another game. 15/30 - 20/40 full? NL? SH on another site than party?
4) Get some exercise 3 times a week or more.

Just started playing short, so this is a perfect time to set some goals:

1) read HUSH forum / archives at least 1h/day
2) play at least 10000 hands in .5/1 short
3) read THFAP's shorthanded section and the blind section 3 times. (and study it GOOD)
4) study about heads-up-play from TOP
5) read all the articles about shorthanded you can find from internet.

6) make some new friends from new students here in my school

They all should be very doable /images/graemlins/smile.gif

August: I didn't have HUSH dreams. I was sick of SNGs. I wanted to learn how to play poker not ICM, pushing & calling ranges. Playing 8 tables doesn't allow you to know everything about your opponent. SH games certainly allow that freedom.

Mid-August: Began by playing the 3/6 6-m games and was hoping to beat them. Fast forward one heater and approximate 14 days later I can play 5/10.

The Sept goal: play a statistically signifcant number of hands in September @ 5/10 and prove I'm a winner. Then re-evaluate.

This is my exact story as well except shift it a couple weeks earlier.

My September goal is to:

*ponder about how I can most efficently improver my play

*Do that for a couple of hours a day

*Spend less time at poker and more time in school

*Play at least 5000 hands

I seem to recall my August goals were to watch England beat Australia in two test matches.

Mission accomplished. And I have a ticket for Friday at the Oval.

September poker goals: play well every session for a whole month.

Guy.

I met some of my goals. I didn't play enough 5/10 6max (only logged 8kish hands, but I did meet my goal of 5k hands in the 10/20 6max (whew!)) and I did meet my monetary goals for the month. Other personal goals -- working out, vacation time -- were met as well.

Hey ggbman,

My august goal was to get better at poker, specifically the 10/20. I've worked hard and I think that i've done well with that goal.

September goals:

1) At least 30k hands of poker - preferably 40k+.
2) Don't look at my financial results until the end of each day to better fight the war on tilt.
3) Earn enough so I can put $3000 into a speculative stock investment that has the potential to pay off huge in a few years.

2. Stay at 10/20 the entire month. (Same goal as last month)

I'm at 70 hours already. I sneak away to the Math department office when I have a planning period and play during school hours. A couple of close shaves but so far so good. It feels so good to be working two jobs at once. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I also stayed at 10/20 for the entire month. I feel pretty good about my game and very good about my mental game. I didn't let swings affect my personal life. I was very collected and focus on improving my game.

As of now, I am at 41.13hrs online in the month. However, I have played live ten different days in September (likewise I have 13 days where I haven't logged a hand online), so, I consider the goal a partial success.

I forgot about this one. I started out at 12 laps at the beginning of the month. Got up to 30 which is close to a mile and then I got sick and went on vacation. I swam 12 laps on Tuesday, first time in a week, and am shooting for 25 today. Overall I'd say this goal was met.

My bankroll is hating me .... I continued to run bad and tilt, and then spent a load of it by going to egypt for 2 weeks. Can't afford to player higher than 15/30 anymore -- ive been going backwards over the last 2 months /images/graemlins/frown.gif

I did, however, grab my second ever MTT win last night, so maybe things are looking up /images/graemlins/cool.gif

Managed to get 25k hands in. I've also recently made the jump to 10/20 so I've made mine.

Next month I'd like to get another 25k hands in and do well enough to stay at 10/20. I also need to value bet my marginal hands more.

1) 33k hands so far, 1 day left.
2) I only failed at this 1 or 2 days. Also, I completed an entire week of no results with Entity.
3) Booooo. I hit a 250BB downswing at the beginning of september and then largely broke even for the rest of the month. Down ~$1200 after the end of it. TGFRB!

[/ QUOTE ]

Played only 7K/30K but am at 4.2BB/100 /images/graemlins/grin.gif .
Blind steal is now at 32%.
Moved to 5/10 well ahead of my prerquisite 50K at 3/6 6 and 1000 BB.
Did not read TOP/SSH.

Did not play a single hand in 2 weeks. Overall, totally failed with my August goals - I suck. /images/graemlins/mad.gif

1.) Although trying at times, it has been a good month and i am meeting lots of cool new people
2.) Me and my good buddies talk all the time
3.) I would have quintupled my goal is i wasnt a moron and actually took the last 2 days of the month off like i was going to, but alas i will live, i ran good this month /images/graemlins/smile.gif

My September goals were

1. Play 80 hours. Nope 60

2. Make 1.5K. Nope $700

3. Take a shot at 2-4. Nope dropped down to .5-1

I learned that I can't beat 1-2 which is hard as hell to learn after hearing all of the great people on this site overall a disapointing month.
