ASHINGTON, April 10 — The Pentagon contract given without competition to a Halliburton subsidiary to fight oil well fires in Iraq is worth as much as $7 billion over two years, according to a letter from the Army Corps of Engineers that was released today.

The contract also allows Kellogg Brown & Root, the Halliburton subsidiary, to earn as much as 7 percent profit. That could amount to $490 million.

Just wondering, but how many internationally-capable oil-well fire-fighting firms are there in the USA?

7% seems like a fairly low or at least reasonable profit margin for a business, doesn't it?

By the way, the U.N. takes 2.5% commission from the all the funds held in trust for the Iraqi oil-for-food program. That's their "administrative fee", and since we're talking billions, their "fee" amounts to a pretty large sum.

I have figured out why you have such a grudge against our vice president. You must have been a night security guard at Halliburton and were laid off during the oil crunch. Hey man, in hard economic times somone has got to bite the bullet. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
