I'm not a big football fan myself, but my best friend happens to be a die hard Eagles fan. He's placing some serious cash on the Eagles at 6-1 to win the Super Bowl in a future, and says I should do the same. If I place a couple grand on it is it a decent wager? Is this the Eagles year? I figure if I put 5K on them at 6-1 and they happen to make it to the super bowl I can at least make a back up wager against them if I want....

I answered you in your other thread.

Their backup depth is thin at RB and WR. Still, they're almost guaranteed to make the playoffs and you can start hedging your bet then.

fwiw, at other sportsbooks online, the eagles are going off at 15-2 odds. shop around if you are going to make this bet.

Philly hasn't had a championship team in any sport since 1983. They ain't gonna win this year either.

I am a New England fan, with the Eagles being a close second. I thinkt he eagles have a better chance this year, than last year.

Back to the original point of Eagles 6-1, I really don't know if that is a good bet. I know you can get a better number than that. And also, placing the bet now, knowing you are going to hedge is a bad idea. The only time a "hedge" is good, is when better the other side is +ev by itself. But, the OP cannot know this yet.

All the other teams in the NFC East got better. The Eagles may not be able to cruise into the playoffs like last year.

They will most likely make the playoffs, but they won't be able to rest starters the last three games.

Also, with Pinkston gone you are basically placing your bet on whether T.O decides to play or to self destruct. When he does not play Westbrook does not have open room to run, McNabb gets put under more pressure and their offense shuts down.

better odds to be had, shop around

homer speaking, i'd bet it

to the uninformed - the NFC East did not get better... nyg has no qb, dallas has no qb, and washington well... they have no qb either - and thats just one position, none of those teams have anyone to throw the ball to either - dallas defense should be a little better, thats the only half-significant improvement i see in the division this year - but how will they score points? (they are not the ravens)

(i did bet it at 7-1 two weeks ago)

If there is one thing I like about CCX is that he has no problem admitting he is a homer. And, just to get it out of the way now: If the Pats don't make the Superbowl I sure want to see McNabb in it.

Some WRs that wear green would say that the Eagles don't have a QB.

PS, my good friend -- the Giants' starter is not Tim Hasselbeck.

Good luck in your quest for a wild card.

Quest for a wild-card? Yikes... there HAS to be a wager that can be born out of this. I'd love to if you're up for it, as much money as you can afford.

All above statements made are true until proven otherwise (the 'no QB' on each NFC East team besides the Eagles, how can you even debate that point... i mean, debate it just to have something to argue about sure, but as an educated fan of the game..?)

With TO the Eagles are a dominant team.

Without him they are still the best team in the East. They just become a bit more vunerable without him because they win mainly close games. He is there, he is playing.

In my mind the only way the Eagles are not in the Super Bowl is this scenario:

Week 9 @ Denver (or maybe Week 4 @ KC) Philly takes a trip out west and has some problems. McNabb is a little off, the defense gives up some huge rushing yards. They lose the game. After the game TO starts whining about how the QB is hitting him in the feet blah blah. Reid suspends him for 2 games.

During his two game suspention TO is part of the Fox pre-game show where he proceeds to rip the whole organization. He than takes the Keyshawn Treatment.

This seems a bit far fetched, but then again who thought we would see him doing sit-ups on his front lawn. /images/graemlins/blush.gif

In other words I think this is a good bet. If you shop the lines it will be even better.
