resident or not its a shame. first im against introduction of non native species. but some are here and arent too bad, and some do well and arent a problem. the horses have been around for a long time as well as the burros in nevada and some other western states.

what its really all about is that cattle associations lease large tracts of govt. land for much less than its true value. the horses eat the same stuff as the cows and that means less money for the cow owners. so they want to kill off all the competition.

in montana they shoot the antelop and horses as well. the coyotes and wolves get it too. even the little prarie dogs have no chance as they are poisened out. so that kills off the birds of prey and on and on. the whole ecosystem suffers just for more profit. and the thing is that only about 3% of all the cows come from public land. yet the ones on it do incredible damage and all the costs are born by us like the cost of fencing and reparing waterways.

Some claim that the cow(bovine bulldozer) is destroying habitats on 6 continents. My own observations here lead me to believe this may be correct.

Question is, can cattle be grazed in an environmentaly friendly way? The arid and semi arid lands of the west are pretty fragile.
