Background. This hand was played at the local dog track where the betting is $2 straight limit with a 4-bet max, and a single $2 blind. All players at the table are loose-passive, and tend to see a flop with any two cards below an 8. No important reads on mp-1, bb is tight-semiagressive for this game. I have folded almost every hand since I sat down an hour before, but I feel like the other players are more worried about the greyhound races going on then paying attention to how tight I have been playing.

Hero ($62) has A /images/graemlins/club.gif A /images/graemlins/spade.gif 2 /images/graemlins/heart.gif Q /images/graemlins/diamond.gif

Pre-flop
utg folds, hero raises, one fold, mp-1 calls, mp 2 calls, three folds, bb calls.

Flop A /images/graemlins/diamond.gif A /images/graemlins/heart.gif 8 /images/graemlins/club.gif
BB checks, hero bets, mp-1 raises, mp 2 folds bb calls, hero 3-bets, mp calls, bb calls.

Turn 7s
BB checks, hero bets, mp-1 raises, bb calls, hero 3-bets, mp caps, bb calls, hero calls.

River Th
Bb checks, hero bets, mp-1 calls, bb calls.

My line on the flop was that if I had checked, (1) it maz have looked suspicious, as that board has to help an ep raiser, and (2) mp 1 and mp 2 would check behind and I would have missed out on 3 bets. I know that a c/r would get 4-bets in on the flop, but would it be worth risking?

There had been a fair amount of position bets on the flop. However, I cannot remember any of them comming from mp-1 or mp-2.

If I had checked the flop, I feel that it would be checked behind more often than not.

IMO, I made the right play by leading the flop. It gives me a chance to get a few bets, or even a raise from a 32xx, and would also entice a player with 88xx, or even 8xxx to raise me when they may have checked behind.

where are you located? Our casinos have that same lame structure in Florida.

edit: about the hand, sometimes if you're sure you haven't established a super tight image, it's right to bet out, especially with a two low card flop. You can't risk giving the fools a free card. But, if it's like a lot of Omaha tables where I play, a check-call might get you more than betting out or check-raising. Then again, most people don't even pay attention, so a CR is sometimes the best option.

I am in Florida as well. The structure isn't the greatest in the world, but I have been making anywhere from 5-10bb's an hour. I figured that a check would just give a free card to someone with 83xx, as these people love them 8-low's, so I might as well bet out and charge them to draw. I get into hold'em mode too often when I flop the nut-hi in hi/lo with no good low draw, thinking that I need to give a card for someone to pay me off with a second best hand, not realizing that the free card will take half the pot away from me.
