With all my posts about these guys...... (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=exchange&Number=1557931&Fo rum=All_Forums&Words=spider&Searchpage=0&Limit=25& Main=1557931&Search=true&where=bodysub&Name=7066&d aterange=1&newerval=1&newertype=y&olderval=&oldert ype=&bodyprev=#Post1557931)

One of them finally bit me. I didn't even know it. My foot swelled up and I have a nickle-quarter sized sore on my foot. Went to the doctor, got a needle in my butt. Now I can't sit down. 3 hours later the swelling is all but gone and the stiffness in my ankle went away. Hopefully the shot stopped the enzymes otherwise they will have to cut it out. /images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Image of the bite on my size 17/18 foot (too lazy to go downstairs to get a dollar bill) after swelling went away. (http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/2682/spiderbitesma2jg.jpg)

Hope that makes you happy astro.

Mine is painless. I'm lucky because either I didn't get hit hard or the enzymes just aren't working on me very quickly. It turns out that I have the best case scenerio. *knocks on wood as he won't know for sure till monday* The guy in that link was screwed by the end of the first day.

I know you can't reply to me but I wanted to know if you have any idea when and where (as in indoor outdoor in a cave) you were when you got bit?

I know you go some crazy cool places but I thought it would be funny if you got bit at a time when you had not left the couch for a week. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Get better soon.

Don't listen to the doctor. Pour some rubbing alcohol on it and you'll be fine.

Ummm, seattle was the gateway for Hobo spiders I think. Similar deal. now the NW is full of them. Watch for Hobos and take some steps to eliminate them if you can. nasty bites.

Holy crap! That sucks, wacki! I've seen what these have done to a couple of friends of mine. One guy has a hole in his back about 2" in diameter and maybe 1" deep. Ouch! Hope you do better.

How did you know to get to the doctor so soon? I've heard that many times people don't know what bit them and they delay going to the doctor to their peril. I'm assuming you got medical attention fairly quickly, no?

wacki

I was lucky as either the poison I got hit with was very slow or I am resistant to it. My foot swelled up to the point where it looked like somebody stuck a golf ball in it. When it opened up 4 days laster that is when I went to the doctor. I was lucky as the guy that got bit in my first link was screwed within 24 hours. It seems the potency of their bite varies a lot in terms of strength and speed. Basically if you see a wound opening up or growing, get to the doctor now.

jakethebake
08-29-2005, 03:26 PM
4 Days? Wtf were you thinking, wacki? I'm surprised you're keeping the foot, and if you weren't it would serve you right! The one guy i mentioned above was an hour from the hospital and lost tissue permanently.

I had no pain. There was no visible bite mark. It just swelled up and I had no clue what it was. My ankle stiffened up the same day that it opened up. Then I was like "ok doctor time".

Update:

A week after I got bit it started to hurt. It felt like my flesh was burning. Up until then it was painless. Then all of a sudden it felt like somebody was holding a lightbulb to it. The pain eventually went away after a couple of days. It was odd as it was painless for so long. The flesh around the sore is a bit looser now but it's healing. I think I've got some nerve damage as the skin on top of my foot is numb now. (about 4" diameter numb section)

It's amazing what they can do. It really is.

Good to hear you are healing however I am sorry about your nerve damage. It still seems like you were lucky on this one (from seeing the pictures of other people's bites).
Unbelieveable what a little spider can do.

I probably have a few of these around my house. I live in the high desert, so all sorts of bugs get in here. In fact, my place has become a regular petting zoo.

My roommate and I agree that we have a solid ecosystem in here. We used to get the random bugs in here, and then they went away when the spiders came in. We tend to leave those guys alone, since they really control the other bugs. Now if one invades my personal space, he gets smooshed.

Oh, we have beetles too. They just lumber around the house. They're cool. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

sorry wacki best of luck here to you.
since you made it thru 5 days its unlikly to get bigger thats good. a brown recluse bite will have a white blister spot in the middle in the early stages so thats a way to maybe know for sure it was one of them.
plaintain is a weed by most folks guess but it works wonders for bites and stings. its put on the bites for less than half hour as a compress or poultice. i aint no doctor so my thoughts are just mine. also basil oil might be looked into. as put on the wound and or drank as a weak tea. ask someone who may know if this applies to you.
