View Full Version : Comments on this stop and go attempt

Nastymast seems loose, and in fact I had just read a HH on 2+2 with him in it. The OP of that thread mentioned he was loose, and nastymast's play seemed to verify that. So I have a few questions:

1. Barring any reads, is this a situation to push?
2. Figuring he was loose and that he might call an all in raise, I decided to try a stop and go. However I'm thinking that maybe I should have slowed down on the jack high flop...what do you think of the flop push? One thing I've realized in reviewing this HH is that if villian had limped with AJ I'd be screwed. Thanks for you comments.

If you plan to do a stop-n-go you can't let the flop have any bearing on whether you actually push or not. Stop-n-go is for situations where you'd rather push, but your opponent would be getting correct pot odds to call. (i.e. you have no Fold Equity.) By waiting until your opponent sees the flop and then pushing, much of the time opponent will whiff the flop and then be facing a situation where it is incorrect to call, assuming you have actually hit the flop. You're getting all your chips in the pot no matter what anyway whether you push preflop or on the flop, but pushing on the flop gives you a better chance to get a fold from opponent.

In this case you've both got good FE and a decent hand so I'd push this preflop.

Agreed.

You think there is FE preflop against someone with 5BB stack who limp first-to-act?

I don't think so. I like the stop-n-go here.

Well, this really isn't a stop and go, but I tend to make this type of check and fire any flop move quite a bit.

Here, I think pushing preflop might be better, but checking seems reasonable.

Could check flop as a trap, but if you are really stop and going, pushing this is less obvious than checking.
