Agreed. This is one of the lingering hold-overs from the stupider parts of feminism that really got nuts in the 70's, which really hasn't helped women at all. NOT knowing how to do something is never a plus, and certainly no kind of liberation. Amazing that it could ever have actually become popular to flat our BRAG that you can't cook, and put forward a weakness as if it were a strength.
But we males had out own problems when this kind of thinking became popular. They reached their height back when that cheesy simpering wimp Alan Alda was saying men had testosterone poisoning and being praised to the skies for it, and I'd guess he'd be the role model for that kind of ridiculous gender-based counter-posing on the male side, happy to be outmatched by a tight pickle jar lid and hankering for pity and forgiveness. Thank goodness fewer women are pretending to like guys like that these days, and fewer guys are feeling pressure to be like that.
Men have gotten past some of their share of our culture's most idiotic gender posing and confusion, but women are lagging behind when it comes to cooking, which is still being spoken of as linked to a sex role to be rejected rather than as a basic life competence, particularly handy should one ever wind up caring for anyone but oneself.
Thank goodness cooking is becoming popular again now. I think people have just reached a critical mass of being sick as hell of eating garbage and feeding it to their kids and loved ones.
I hope the next generations can skip a few of our pointless mistakes.
