Is it normal for say a person to start with $100 after one day have $50 the next $150 etc....

When I play the swings in money terms seem to be so wide.

If you play smaller stakes, the swings will be smaller.

Upswings and downswings are part of poker, you should be playing a limit where you are comfortable with the swings.
