I played at the Taj a couple of days ago, in there $65 No Limit tourney. 17 players left, 8 at my table. Top 18 make the $ list, but spots 10-18 have same payout. I'm sittin on 20k in chips, but blinds are 3000/6000, with 1000 ante's. I'm in 4th position(3 folds ahead of me) with 88. woman to my left is short stack with @8k, everyone else left to play in hand has about same stack as me, except BB, who has @ 45k. I move all in. My thoughts were that everyone else would have to have a real hand to call me, even BB, who wouldn't be out if he called and lost, but crippled. Obviously, any hand I play from that point on, I'm pretty much pot committed. Was I too hasty? Thoughts...

Easy push IMO.

I didn't feel bad about it at the time either.....but, of course, when you get called, and knocked out, you reflect a little more on the situation and try to imagine a better option. (Like I get dealt AA the next hand......)

I think your only play is to push.

You have 2000 chips and there is 1700 in the pot with blinds and antes. I push with amy two.

Pushing sounds about right...A play I sometimes throw in there as an alternative is raising it to like 16-18,000 to create the illusion (mainly for weaker opponets) that I want to be called, rather then just take down the blinds and antes which I would prefer with a weaker hand like 22-88, or A-10, K-J,etc..Obvioulsy I toss the rest of my chips in there if I'm called or raised no matter what

Sometimes you know your beat and you have to lay it down.

For some reason this cracks me up everytime I see it. I see you posted and already know what I'm going to see. And I agree with the others that this is a definite push.

In that position with the blinds that size I would have pushed that hand even earlier than that. No haste there.

He had 20,000 in chips, which was about the average at his table.

Sorry. He had 20K chips and the blinds and antes were 17K. I don't care if it's average for the table. If there is a reasonable chance I can steal the blinds and I am unlikely to get multiple callers, I still push with any two.

Folded to you in middle position with a PP and only 3x BB.
Insta push.

With this size ante, open pushing for 15xBB with 88 from 4th position is EV+, although with that big a stack you could also standard raise or limp.

Thanks for thoughts/opinions.......Just FYI, the short stack to my left (chick w/ 8k) called w/ J10o , which I was happy about b/c I had her well covered and thought her call might deter other action. The BB, however, also called w/ A10o, and knocked both of us out when A hit flop. At first I thought this was somewhat of a loose call on his part, but after further reflection, the woman's call with 8k, actually only sweetened his pot odds, without any further risk, and he was already 7k committed to the pot, so another 13k, for a chance at a 45k pot, made his call an excellent one, even in a 3 way pot. Thanks again.
