I'm aware both are acceptable, I was more wondering which is more common.

What about Aunt and Ant?

Not intentional, but after thinking about it, I'm pretty sure I use the former as a noun and the latter as a verb. Hmmm...

I thought about it for a bit, and realized that I say it both ways. Both sound perfectly fine to me.

It's a north/south thing.

In the north, it's aunt. In the south, it's ant.

I grew in the south. I say ant. It's strange to hear people say aunt, to me anyway.

(yeah, I'm aware that's probably the correct way, it still sounds strange)

How do you pronounce "schadenfreude"? Which is a good word for many poker players meaning: Pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others.

I know, whats Pokah? I think its a dance and so on and so forth.

Not in the Northern Midwest. It's pronounced just like ant. I think it's more a red/blue state thing, with exceptions for MN, WI, and MI.

But it's German, you have to pronounce the E at the end. I say "SHAH-den-froid-uh."

What about alleged? Both seem to be acceptable, and I find myself using both...depending on the context.

Well [censored] then. From here on out, I'm just going to say that normal people say "ant" and uptight retarts say awnt.

As a verb obviously you don't pronounce the second e, that would sound ridiculous.

As an adjective I have no idea.

Touche. Pretty straightforward pronunciation as a verb. Friend pointed out the other night when I was reading a newspaper headline (I read it twice to different people) that I said it differently each time. Neither sound pretentious.
