PL Mixed Games, $100-buy-in, no one has much PLO or PLO8 experience compared to me, so no reason to give them credit for trickiness.

Villain and I both have a little over $100

Blinds are .50/.50

UTG folds, Button makes it $1.50 to go, I make it $3.50 to go with A /images/graemlins/heart.gif8 /images/graemlins/heart.gif9 /images/graemlins/diamond.gifT /images/graemlins/diamond.gif in the SB, BB folds, SB is puzzled and just calls.

Flop is K /images/graemlins/heart.gif8 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif3 /images/graemlins/heart.gif

I lead for $5, Button thinks a little then pots it, making it $17 more to me. His range (to me) could be anything from top set, bottom set (middle set unlikely 4-handed but could happen), any two pair, or even AKxx or KQxx.

I'm a slight favorite over bottom two or top and bottom pair

I'm about even against top two pair

I'm way ahead of TPTK or TPGK

I'm 3-2 dog against bottom set

I'm a little under 2-1 against top or middle set

Bottom set seems unlikely since he raised PF (unless he has something like JJ33 or AK33ds, very exact hands), middle set unlikely as well. I'm torn between him just smooth-calling top set or having little concept of extracting money and potting it, worried I have a flush draw and will chase.

Who calls here?

That flop has absolutely no draw apart from the one in your hand. He is either betting a big fat bluff or something big. But calling is the worst option. Either raise him back (opponents should fold 2 pair in this situation, as a set could very well be in your hand) or fold. Calling seems weak and makes your hand apparant since no other draw is out.

I do. You also have backdoor diamond and straight draw. Any diamond, 7 or Q gives you a huge draw.

The few times I've tried to play PLO in a home game, players with no PLO experience (which is most people) play it like they play Holdem ... i.e. TPTK, Two Pair, etc. are way overplayed. I've also seen semi-bluffs from position with non-nut draws.

I'm sure, in your game, you know what players understand the games and what players don't. Anyone, of course, could have top set here, but you can expand your range of possibilities to include any 2 pair, any AK, and even a lower flush draw.

This is one situation where your knowledge of the player could make fold or raise applicable here. I also think there is a case to make a call because many turn cards open up more draws for you.

I made the call, wanting a turn card that gives me any sort of straight draw, maybe an Ace, too. His pot-bet seemed a bit quick and confident, so that was a little suspicious.
