View Full Version : Tons of trouble finding .50/1 at Party?

I just set up an account at Empire yesterday, and in my few hours of playing so far, I have yet to see a table with vpip > 40. Is there any particular reason why I can't find suitable tables to play at?

Off the top of my head:
1) Bonus time brings a lot of the TAG whores that play their bonus hands at lower limits.
2) The beginner tables have taken a lot of the noobs.
3) The 6-max tables have taken many of the action players.

VPIP table avg over 40 is insanely good. Over 30 is easily beatable especially when you combine that with their crappy postflop play.

Beginner tables?

And what should I do. I don't really have the bankroll for 1/2 (150bb for 1/2), although my winrate at .50/1 has been 1.9 for over 6000 hands now, so if I was willing to take the monetary risk I would be willing to step up the limit.

Stay where you are. That's not enough hands to really know how you're doing. Your br is insufficient and you're probably going to want to bump up that winrate before moving up. .50/1 is still looser than 1/2, and like deathdonkey said, you should be able to find plenty > 30, which is fine. If you're looking for a really loose game, 6-max is the place.

I think the beginner tables are party only.

Why not learn to beat the 30 vpiv game? If you want to move up, which all of us do, you're going to have to play in those games anyway.

oh I don't have a problem beating 30vpip, was just curious as it seems like a lot of people on this site talk about easily beatable party tables.

You're right, I hadn't noticed that.

The micro Party tables have tightened up considerably in the past few months.

However, high table VPIP can be mutually exclusive of being easily beatable. If you've got 2 LAGs and a bunch of rocks the table VPIP could only be in the teens and you could bleed those LAGs like hogs, with only occasional interference from the rocks. OTOH, you could have 5 LAGs and one good TAG, and you become the sixth donator at a table with VPIP > 40.

Great point Boz. table VPIP is just a number and does not allways corelate to whether you can win at that table.

The better question is when can I get on a non-random 1/2 table without waiting behind 15 people? /images/graemlins/mad.gif

Never. And, by the time you do get to the head of the wait list, the donators you were looking forward to taking money from have actually switched to backgammon, died of boredom, been creamated and had their ashes spread over some little park in Chicago.

Open up 4 tables, getting on the waiting list, take the first seat that opens that is satisfactory. By satisfactory, it meets one of the following conditions:

1. Very loose player (> 40% VPIP) either 1, 2, or 3 seats to the right of you, or 2+ loose players (> 30% VPIP) in the 4 seats to the right of you.
2. Tight players in each of the 3 seats left of you, preferrably passive.
3. > 30% Table Avg. VPIP
4. < 5% Table Avg. PFR (unless it's insanely tight)

in my experience, finding a table with > 40 vpip is relatively rare, even on party.

That is all.

I must agree. party .5/1 6-max is so freaking soft once you get a feel for it. it may be a little daunting to jump into, but boy is it a ride (be careful, the variance is HUGE... over the 8k hands I've put in there my graph is like a pin cushion).
