View Full Version : Pick a movie

Alright I'm in a really tough spot. I want to watch a movie in my hotel room, but my choices are very limited. I have it narrowed down to two movies. I'm throwing in two more choices just in case I get warned off the first two but unless the vote is overwhelming I won't pick those. I don't know much about any of them except that Million Dollar Baby won best picture but I typically don't like boxing movies. I already saw Ocean's Twelve, but since the other three aren't jumping out at me I'm including it. XXX2 is included because if I expected it to be good it would win (my current mood) but I'm not expecting it to be good.

Watch Sin City, its good not great but over the top violence and beatiful women are always a good time.

Sin City for sure. Incredible visuals.

Sin City is decent, but has been vastly overrated from what I've read others say about it. Million Dollar Baby was quite good, but if you say you typically don't like boxing movies, you likely won't like this one either.

Well, if it's a good movie I will still like it. But in general I wasn't all that happy with ones I've seen so far. The Rocky's were decent IMO (others LOVED them obviously, I just thought they were ok), and The Hurricane was very meh.

last two are mediocre. Sin City if you are in the mood for a fun action movie. MDB if you are in the mood for one of the best stories and best acting in recent years.

I voted MDB for the following reason:

You've seen O12 so it's out.
xxx looks like it sucks bad.
Sin City is a movie that I really want to see. But the 1st time I see it won't be on some crappy hotel TV. It'll be at home on my HDTV with surround sound. End of story.
MDB is a rental movie anyway with no real emphasis on the visual. Saw it on the plane and that was just fine.

Enjoy.

I'd say calling MDB a boxing movie is a gross mischaracterization.

Sin City and MDB are both good and worth watching. Sin City if you feel like action, MDB if you want a drama/tearjerker.

Haven't seen it, don't know much about it other than Oscar results and that there's boxing in it.

You know I don't really like boxing movies either but calling MDB a boxing movie really does it injustice. This is a great movie! It is a lot deeper than just boxing, incredible story.

As for sin city, the point of seeing it at home in surround sound is totally valid. No way I would want to see sin city in a hotel room either. Go with MDB, you won't regret it.

um...no. the cinematography in MDB is fantastic. lots of use of shadows, etc. it's pretty important to the overall feel of the film.

Porque? I'm a big eastwood fan, and MBD didn't really do it for me. Hillary Swank is solid, but this was not eastwood's best film at all, and I am still bitter that the Aviator didn't win Best Picture and that Scorcese didn't win best director. MBD was probably the thrid best film up for the nod this year, behind Hotel Rwanda and the Aviator

yes save sin city for when you have a better tv, surround sound, etc. an awesome movie, best comic book movie IMO

ocean's 12 was one of the worst movies i've ever seen. no way that movie had a script going into production.

MDB no contest. Sin City is mostly eye candy, so don't watch it on a hotel TV.

I agree. It was painful to watch. How could you possibly consider seeing it again?

I ended up watching MDB mostly because of usmfan's post and a few IM recommendations.

It was not a good movie for killing two random hours by myself before bed in a hotel room when I didn't feel like playing poker. But it was good, so I guess it was fine.

1. I win.
2. Yes, I understand that Eastwood's use of lighting is important so there is visual importance. However, MDB is mainly a character driven drama. It's need to be seen in a large presentation is greatly outweighed by the need of Sin City.
