Would you go for the ride? (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=exchange&Number=3210332&pa ge=1&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=14&fpart=1)

Would you roll the dice on your life? (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=scimathphil&Number=3073968 &Forum=&Words=tstone&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Main=30 60455&Search=true&where=bodysub&Name=&daterange=1& newerval=1&newertype=m&olderval=&oldertype=&bodypr ev=#Post3073968)

To me it seems obvious that almost everyone would prefer 1 billion dollars over a trip in a space shuttle. Then why is it that so many people in the dice rolling thread are against the concept or want a really nice padding of favorable odds when almost the majority of voters in the shuttle thread are eager to go? For a billion dollars you could probably buy your way into riding the space shuttle yourself as long as you maintain the proper physical condition. Justin Timberlake tried to buy his way in, but they deemed that he was not physically healthy enough.

The odds of catastrophy occurring to the shuttle during were estimated at 1:56.5, 1:75 and 1:100 by their different sources. The majority of votes in the dice rolling thread require that the dice have 100 sides or more for them to accept the offer, so in essence it appears that either the majority of people prefer to ride the spaceship over a billion dollars or they have miscalculated the likelyhood of catastrophy.

for whatever reasons people care about the manner of their death. dying because you bet your life and rolled wrong sucks. dying in a fireball after kicking it in space for a while is more attractive.

FWIW I voted 10-100 in the dice thread and that I would go on the shuttle.

dying by dice sounds painless when compared to a burning fireball.

Don't know why I'm doing this, but..... it was actually Lance Bass, not Justin Timberlake.
