This is a tough one for me because I love cashews, but I am currenty ADDICTED to Emerald Nuts dry-roasted almonds - they are amazing. But I think it's in the way the are prepared, and a plain cashew tastes way better than a plain almond, so I'll go with cashew.

I said it when a similar poll ran recently: how the hell can you have a "best nut" poll without including macadamia?
I would have voted for that or "left"

I find these results surprising. I had no clue that cashews were so highly regarded. When I get mixed nuts, I usually feed the cashews to my dog. I voted almonds, pistachios are a close second.

This poll surprises me. I had no idea cashews were so popular. Frankly, I don't care for them. I said pecans with pistachios at #2.

I agree that cashews are the best nut, but I find it interesting that they are the only nut on the list that I have never seen in a shell. Anyone seen a cashew shell before?

So she would hear me in the other room, and she'd just start yelling. I'd say, "Peanut. Hazelnut. Cashew nut. Macadamia nut." That was the one that would send her into going crazy. She'd say, "Would you stop naming nuts!" And Hubert used to be able to make the sound, he couldn't talk, but he'd go "rrrawr rrawr" and that sounded like Macadamia nut. Pine nut, which is a nut, but it's also the name of a town. Pistachio nut. Red pistachio nut. Natural, all natural white pistachio nut."

Exactly! Only I don't have a dog. I'll gladly trade anyone my stash of Cashews (carefully neglected from several mixed nut packages my wife insists on buying) for Almonds or Pistachios. Heck, I'm willing to give 2 for 1 if you will cover shipping!*

The shells are toxic and are always removed long before you see them.
Cashews actually grow on a type of apple. They essentially connect the top of the apple to the stem.
