View Full Version : [10/1 Party] Playing 77-99 preflop?

I still haven't figured out if I'm supposed to play these hands for set value or pair value in these situations. And, if it matters what position I'm in. And, if it matters that it's the first hand of the tournament so I don't know how many callers I'm getting. And if I play for pair value how much I'm supposed to raise.

Example:

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t15 (10 handed) converter (http://www.selachian.com/tools/bisonconverter/hhconverter.cgi)

UTG+1 (t800)
UTG+2 (t800)
MP1 (t800)
MP2 (t800)
MP3 (t800)
CO (t800)
Button (t800)
Hero (t800)
BB (t800)
UTG (t800)

Preflop: Hero is SB with 8/images/graemlins/club.gif, 8/images/graemlins/spade.gif.
UTG calls t15, 1 fold, UTG+2 calls t15, 2 folds, MP3 calls t15, CO calls t15, Button calls t15

Hero: ???

Complete, or raise to 195. ---> (then play the flop aggressivley)

I complete here, and I really think it's correct compared to raising.

Play for set value, check every flop.

And, if there's very, very weak stuff out there, you can play on a weak non-set board, though with that many opponents, I don't think it's a good idea without the perfect action.

complete with 88 in the small blind. low to med pocket pairs are better in late position and with a few limpers. i dont think its a good idea to raise with any pp's lower than JJ, u want to see a flop as cheaply as possible. this of course being only in level 1 and 2, and in level 3 if u have a huge stack.

I'm starting to think I'm a closet LAG. Here's one from a PL SNG I'm playing right now, is this a standard continuation bet? A check/fold? Check/call if HU?

This is actually part of the reason I posted a hand from one of the blinds; I won't get to see most of the flop action until after I've acted first. Is this an argument for raising on the button but not from SB?

Great discussion on playing medium pairs out of the blinds early on (http://archiveserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=singletable&Number=1649296 &Forum=,,,,,,,f22,,,,,,,&Words=&Searchpage=1&Limit =200&Main=1640658&Search=true&where=sub&Name=15228 &daterange=1&newerval=1&newertype=y&olderval=&olde rtype=&bodyprev=#Post1649296)

I don't. I hate it.

What if it were a rainbow flop?

What if it were two opponents instead of three?

What if the blinds had been two of the callers (meaning two people have checked instead of one)?

EDIT: Or should I just be waiting until a later position to raise this at all?

I hate the preflop raise UTG with 99 at level 1. Really, really hate it. Stop doing it.
