This was such a big hand it felt like having a one night stand with a gorgeous woman. I was a happy man for about a minute, but was left wanting more when it was over.

Party Poker SNG No-Limit Hold'em Tourney $20+2, Big Blind is t50 (8 handed) converter (http://www.selachian.com/tools/bisonconverter/hhconverter.cgi)

UTG (t545)
UTG+1 (t1710)
MP1 (t765)
Hero (t980)
CO (t525)
Button (t1405)
SB (t605)
BB (t1465)

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with T/images/graemlins/heart.gif, Q/images/graemlins/heart.gif.
3 folds, Hero calls t50, 1 fold, Button calls t50, SB completes, BB checks.

Flop: (t200) K/images/graemlins/heart.gif, 5/images/graemlins/diamond.gif, 9/images/graemlins/heart.gif (4 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets t100, Button folds, SB calls t100, BB folds.

Turn: (t400) J/images/graemlins/heart.gif (2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks.

River: (t400) J/images/graemlins/club.gif (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets t50, SB calls t50.

Final Pot: t500

The small bet on the river is what bothers me. Did I play it wrong or was it just a let down because the payoff couldnt match the beauty of the hand. How would you have played it differently (the hand not the gorgeous woman)?

I dont like the river bet. Im overbetting the pot on the river here, for 2 reasons ...

1.) He might interpret it as a bluff, and call you with Kx
2.) If he doesnt think your bluffing, he'll only be calling this huge bet with a smaller flush or a made boat on the river. (in which youve boned him)

The 50 chip bet doesnt really accomplish anything.

That was my feeling. As soon as the hand was over I was kicking myself for not betting the pot or going all-in. The good news is I won the SNG even with this poor play.

The [censored]? Misplayed on all streets.

Fold preflop
Check the flop (1. with the intention of check-raising all in OR 2. calling a bet when you have the correct odds to do with a gutshot / flush draw)
Bet T250 on turn
Bet T300 on river

WTF? this has got to be a joke. That river bet is weak as hell. Have you never seen a straight flush before? Who cares if the hand is beautiful.

I hate preflop and flop.
preflop: fold, stacks not deep enough.
flop: check, why pay to see if u hit ure draw?, do u really think everyone will fold
river: just bet the biggest ammount that will get him to call, if u think thats 50..well thats fine( I wasnt there anyway, u were)

So lets bet 300 on the river becuase I have a big cock..who cares if the raise is weak..do u think , given the previous action, he will call a 200 or 300 bet?

Your best chance to get paid here is from the A /images/graemlins/heart.gif

Given that he's probably going to miss, you have to bet the turn.

There are so many weak-tighties on this board. Fold pre-flop 8 handed when the first 3 have folded. What are you waiting for? This is at the least a limp, and maybe even a raise if you want to adby by the Gap Concept.

QTs is not a very good hand, you don't have the implied odds of being behind limpers, and 20x BB is a very, very shallow stack.

I think folding preflop is a good idea here.

I think checking flop is good. I think you should bet the turn too.

Dont sugar-coat it.
The table was extremly tight. SF% less than 20% for most players so I opened up a little. I didnt bet the turn because I was hoping he would catch something on the river.
I know that the river bet was weak, but I didnt realize that my game was so bad that I should limit my poker to just watching it on tv. Thanks for the reality check.

"Weak-Tight" is not an insult to a low limit SNG player.

Given flop play, you absolutely have to bet the turn IMHO. He could have a flush draw, and it's hard for him to put you on a flush, so if he thought he had you beat, he still will.

What you should be thinking is along the lines of "Will this change the outcome of this SNG."

The guy can call 50 on this river for the rest of his life, but it won't help you very often in even limping into third place or something, let alone winning it.

Yes, he'll probably fold for 300 or 400 or something, but the times that he doesn't will help your chances of an ITM significantly.
