Let's settle this, pick the worst 5 of these 20 songs discussed in the other thread and we'll see which song gets the most overall votes:

I honestly don't see the problem with "Don't Worry, Be Happy".

Ouch. I took the most mentioned songs from the other thread combined with what I considered to be the most annoying songs from 3 website lists of worst songs ever. Tried to be as diverse as possible. I suppose a more appropriate title would have been: "Most annoying song that at one time was quite popular" Poll? Suggestions welcome, criticisms unnecessary.

Where the hell is mmbop by Hanson?

What the hell is wrong with fast car?

I second that Mmmmbop should be on the list.

Its not Bloodhound Gang, if you don't regularly listen to them you might not understand, but they are a comedy band, they make shitty songs on purpose. So don't bother nominating them for worst song.

Wanted to list those two as they are indeed terrible terrible songs but as others said they were gimmick groups rather than those in the poll who actually took themselves seriously.

You left one notable stinker off the poll; that Don Johnson song when he tried to start a music career. Being that this one isn't a valid choice the clear answer is the Eddie Murphy song. Seriously, people who did not vote for it must not know about it; that's how bad it is.

A lot of these songs sucked because they tried to be rock songs. Where's the total lame soft rock songs like "Feelings"??

I agree. Also, why is 'Like a Virgin' not in this group. I always hated it.

I was beat incomplete
I'd been had, i was sad and blue
But you made me feel
Yeah, you made me feel
Shiny and new

ugh!

It's amazing that these two posts are back to back

BECAUSE

"What's Up"'s verse is BLATANTLY plagiarism - the melody is taken directly from "Don't Worry, Be Happy"

Try it for yourself (there are some syllable differences, but the main melodic movement is nearly identical):

Twenty-five years and my life is still
Trying to get up that great big hill
of hope
For a destination
And I realized quickly when I knew I should
That the world was made up of this brotherhood
of man
For whatever that means

Here is a little song I wrote
You might want to sing it note for note
Don't worry
be happy
In every life we have some trouble
When you worry you make it double
Don't worry,
be happy...

Linda Perry admitted to being very paranoid about her songwriting later because she was afraid her songs might sound like another song. She didn't steal the melody on purpose, but there's no mistaking the similarity.

As for this poll, neither song deserves to be on this list by a long shot.

1. Should have titled the poll "Worst song ever that was hugely popular at one time"

2. Don't Worry Be Happy, What's Going On?, and Fast Car should not be in the poll even though I hate all three

3. For Hollaback Girl to get so many votes shows that it is easily the worst song of the 2000's

4. For those of you that haven't heard it, Eddie Murphy's "Party all the time" is eaisly the WORST song in the poll (when considering music, words, singing, and video quality only) But as it is less known than some of the others it won't win the poll

5. Who Let the Dogs Out is winning so far. When it first came out, I liked it. And I wasn't on drugs. What the hell was I thinking. Time for counseling.

Clearly the worst song of all time is "Nothing compares to you" by Sinead O'Connor. I can't even listen to it, it hurts my ears.

The poll should start and end with that song.

Peace

Other songs I absolutely cannot stand and would rather be in pain than hear again:

Maroon 5 - She Will Be Loved
Celine Dion - My Heart Will Go On
Bob Carlisle - Butterfly Kisses
Bette Midler - From a Distance
Nickelback - Anything
Country Music (specifically Brooks & Dunn - Play Something Country)

I second that Fast Car & We Built This City should not be on this list.

But all these songs have awesome camp value and good listenability. A truly horrific song would be something that you can't even listen to for any reason.

You guys are both high. This is the worst piece of crap attempt at putting together notes of music in the history of the world. And the voice that sings it is even worse than the music.

Just God Awful and anybody who doesn't think so has horrible taste in music.

Clearly insane. I've only heard the Sinead version a few times, but I have Prince doing it live with Rosie Gaines, and the tune is AWESOME.
