I have 10 BB (I have 150K blinds are 7500 and 15K)and locked up 2650. 20th- 11th place pays 3500 but I would like top 3 money. Raise 3bb,fold,push. I felt like at the time I was only going to be called by AK,AQ,10-10+ which I thought was a reasonable risk. Is this a bad risk/reward situation??

Yeah, I think from 11-25 I didn't see a big reason to grind it out when the pay increases were not that big. Fellow 2+2er Keegro hit an ace on the river that could have had me at 275K and coasting to the final 6-7 but thats poker. I sucked out more than my share so 2650 is better than nothing.

Uh... More info please... Stack sizes and reads on players behind you? I think an open push here is no good without antes. Its a pretty huge raise.

BB had about 120 and the rest of the stacks were between 100 and 200k. A 200k stack after me was chomping at the bit to resteal from me and don't want to be forced to call getting 2-1. If I let the blinds hit me I still have 8.5 BB and could potentially push my sb but had already done that every time it was folded to me. Just thought I had only to worry about 4 hands.

Easy push. You are only worried about 99-AA, A9, and AT calling. The math is in your favor even without antes. In this situation in the tournament, you would like to gamble to double up and make the final table.

A9-A10 are unlikely to call and the likelyhood of 99-10-10 is reduced. After I lost to jacks I thought it was a drastic move but based on the idea of winning and not surviving it was probably correct.

There is only about a 10% chance someone has 99-AA. You lose on average about 1xBB if called by AK-AJ. So the math is favorable. This is a stage where you really want to gamble.

It doesn't feel good when you run into JJ or something. This is pretty similar to pushing with a small pair.
