View Full Version : A simple question - do you slowdown without the nuts?

I am playing live 6/12 and am the BB with 9/images/graemlins/diamond.gif 7/images/graemlins/diamond.gif

The board is 9/images/graemlins/heart.gif 6/images/graemlins/heart.gif 9/images/graemlins/club.gif 7/images/graemlins/heart.gif 2/images/graemlins/spade.gif

6 players saw the flop. After I 3-bet the turn, UTG+1 (who just called pre-flop and on the flop) caps. Everyone folds.

I bet out the river and he raises. Would you 3-bet? The pot is already worth 26BB ($312).

The only hands I lose to are 8/images/graemlins/heart.gif 5/images/graemlins/heart.gif and T/images/graemlins/heart.gif 8/images/graemlins/heart.gif. I guess this is a more basic question. After getting capped on the turn and raised on the river, do you always slow down without the nuts?

In a case like this, the nuts are very specific hands not like a board of AQJT2 where just a king is the nuts). Also, villian could have a lot of hands that I beat (96, a nut flush, a flush).

Let's take a poll:

A) 3-bet
B) call
C) I dont know.

Your hand is really well disguised.

With no cap on the betting, I would go at least 6-bets before I thought about slowing down.

This is an easy 3-bet. If no cap heads-up, plan on paying at least 6 bets on the river.

Hi, PaperboyNC!

In this situation I would put everything I could in that pot...including chips, cat, and clothes!

Have a great day, sir!

Come on, this is a very clear raise. I'd go 5 bets before calling down. You will run into a smaller boat, or the ace-flush much more often than you will run into the immortal nuts.

The question isn't whether or not to 3-bet. The question is whether to 7-bet or 9-bet.

Villain hit his flush. Likely the nut flush. If he actually has a straight flush, well, that's just going to suck. I still raise a good long while before I slow down, though.

to answer the simple question- a simple answer: it depends on the opponent(s) betting tendencies.

I am happy to raise here every time. If he has one of few hands that beats me, then I pay off.

He had just sat down at the table. He sat down with the wrong chips and put the wrong amount in both for the big blind and small blind. Clearly his first time playing 6/12.

He also hadn't played a hand all the way up 'til this one.

I actually didn't think about going more than 4 bets and neither the dealer nor anyone else mentioned it. Since my opponent was new to 6/12, he didn't know he could go for more than 4 bets. I did cap it though.

I like this line only if you can fold to a 10-bet. Otherwise, this is just spewing...

I don't think my hand is well disguised. Someone at the table thought a long time and then claimed to fold Q/images/graemlins/heart.gif J/images/graemlins/heart.gif after saying, "I guess one of you has the full house."

Everyone at the table heard him say that.

I glad thought that you all agreed with my line. I capped both rivers.

Easy three-bet. He can easily a have a smaller boat and put you on the nut flush. He might even have the nut flush himself, but I think that is less likely. If he four bets, I think you have to five bet. If he raises again, I think you can slow down since he has to start getting worried that you have either 99 or 97.

08-22-2005, 11:35 PM
If you are playing me, please slow down. Otherwise, play it as fast as you can
