View Full Version : Opinion of Pokergrader

There has been a lot of discussion about Pokergrader on the SS and ML forums lately. I don't want to skew the results of this poll by giving my own opinion of this application, but I did want to get a general opinion of PG from this board. I think of this General Hold em forum as a sort of "watering hole" where players from different forum, limits, and skill levels come together, so I though a more general opinion of PG migh provide some insight to a lot of us in SS and ML into how much face value we should put into PG's evaluation of our play. I have left several options to indicate strentgh of opinion. 1 is very positive while 7 is very negative, with 4 being essentially neutral. Please note I have allowed those who do not respond to see the results, so if you have not used PG please don't vote (as you don't have to).

Any substantive comments are also greatly appreciated.

is there a way to use it for UB?

I used it a bit, it says I call the river a bit much when I should be raising, and I don't play enough hands. Interesting stuff, but I kinda knew that already.

Very useful to a subset of players: those that big leaks that this thing can call out. If you're game is mostly on (and chances are if you're playing 3-6 or above and winning decent, it is) then I don't think you'll get much out of it.

As it is, I'm a poor player :P but mostly it just echoed what I already knew: I've had some bad river luck lately, and I'm too passive. PT stats (compared to the Micro FAQ) told me that.

I think so if you get the HHs from pokertracker. Evan outlines how to do that in this post. (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=3197717&page=0&view=e xpanded&sb=5&o=14&fpart=)

EDIT: Actually I don't think it even accepts it that way according to PG guy.

The one thing I LOVED was that in the last 1000 hands it said I had <font color="red">BAD LUCK </font> YEA - TELL ME ABOUT IT!

I am starting to think that "bad luck" might be par for the course. Pretty much everyone I have seen post their results has had bad luck. This might be indicative of getting sucked out on a lot, which is what we would expect. I would like to see what the Pokergrader poster has to say about this.

Couple of things.. it would be nice to have a quantative numbers for what luck is. A better explanation maybe?

Also the higher the hand count for a session the better the chance at a better grade as short term variances are lessened, i.e. "you are calling too much", when that may be correct for that sample.

It gives some very interesting results for headsup and shorthanded sessions. They really need to add an APH adjustment.

I'm sure there's some sample bias there, as people are more likely to use it when they're running badly.

Both sessions I imported (one full ring, 1300 hands, 1 HU, 700 hands) came out as very slightly bad luck (-2 or so). Both also had hugely higher actual profit than potential. I don't quite see how those add up.

hmmm - my expected winning % at SD is

66060645896608938714661852854893793670578760459062 543032162927509504.00%

This seems a little large!

However - my final Grade forthe last 5000 hands is <font color="red"> A </font>

I use it whenever I run really bad or really good. I like seeing if I can make the leadrboard.

The PG poster addresses this in a recent ML post if you (or anyone else) is interested, here (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&amp;Number=3203740&amp;page=0&amp;view=e xpanded&amp;sb=5&amp;o=14&amp;fpart=)

This bug was common with older version of PGC, but also sometimes happens in certain situations.

Which version of PGC did you use to submit your hands?
