I like goog but in the short term it may head to 250 first....I think upside is only 300 right now which only 7% but it can tank if some bad news comes out.....again only in the short term.......

I'm a big IBD reader and user....but i think market may be headed south or at least very choppy and so i'd sit tight and look for stocks with big earnings and sales % increases quarter over quarter...I'd wait to see some volume on the upside in goog before i buy it. Yhoo might be the safer play right now.

Also,
most of the stocks on this 92 92 list have made nice run ups so far and now might be some profit taking time....The key is to find those stocks that haven't made the list but will eventually or those on the list that can sustain those high growth rates....Qsii i bought on the last pullback made some nice money and am now flat it....If it comes back down on light value to a support level i buy it back.....LUFK was another one that worked for me.......Goog i owned in the 110's and got out about 270 and then rebought it in 290's and got out over 300....now waiting for another pullback or some stabalization.......Shld is another i had but have lost some of my gains on it recently.
And am reluctanly holding it.....but will be out soon.
Are you a big IBD Follower???

I am just starting to ramp up on some investments on my own.

DNA (Genentech) really intrigues me. That will be after GOOG I think.

Why do they like GOOG and why do you like GOOG?

PetroKazakhastan PKZ
Petrochina PTR

I think PKZ might be a good play for a quick profit. They supposedly have gotten 3 offers and so you might be able to pick it up and make a quick 15-25%. OTOH, PTR is one of the companies bidding on PKZ so if there bid is accepted I expect them to take a bit of a tumble, so I would stay away from them.

I just sat down to play Poker after spending time with the Monday IBD. So I ask, if you are a CANSLIM follower, why would you buy goog now?

The message is that the market is very tentative with 3 recent distribution days and to my eye alot of churning (Friday). Perhaps not the time for new purchases.

GOOG is sitting below its 50 day moving avg which has flattened out. Just a word of caution.

If you're not or don't intend to be a CNASLIM follower, what the heck, go crazy.

MY current holdings:
CIB bought at 17.62. Have already sold half position at 20% profit and have my stop at 20.00.

ELOS: This one is scaring me. Bought at 39.54 a while ago. Tonight I moved my stop up to 36.50 which is a point below the 50day moving average.

CVH: Bought at 75.03. Stop is at 71.18, again a point below the 50dma.

I've definitly gone into defensive mode in light of the recent market action and I did well in this last rally (RYL!!) so I'm looking to hold onto my profits.

I'd love some comments on my stop placement right now from other CANSLIMERS.

I'm not sure why this is directed at me, but I will attempt to answer. I'm not a "pure" CANSLIM guy, I have my own bastardized method of buying stocks that I think works (lol). And I don't really follow the technical analysis vodoo, everything looks like a cup with a handle to me.

My guess is GOOG will be over 300 by the end of the year. I think next quarter will be good for them. I really like the way the company is run, but it's getting to be big and your not going to see the stock soar like it has in the first year so there will probably be better places to put your money.

Squiffy, the list of 85/85 or 92/92 as cut down by owl, is not a buy list. It is simply a list of well performing stocks on both a fundamental and technical (really relative strength) basis. This list is mearly one screen that IBD publishes to help identify the best stocks.

So GOOG appears on the list, because fundamentally (based on IBDs formula) it is in the top 9% of all stocks, and its relative price performance puts it in the top 9%. GOOGs actual IBD rating is 99/95.

This doesn't mean that its a good time to buy. Using IBDs methods, you would be looking at the charts to form a base and then trigger a buy.

ELOS likes to trade in a wide range, if you don't like the bucking bronco ride, just get off.

A good stock in a fundamentally horrible group.

Just learning so I appreciate the input. IBD's 85/85 list outperforms the market by a ton, so there seems to be something to it.

As far as GOOG is concerned, I am not a technical guy, but buy companies whose products are the best. GOOG is by far the best and dominates even more overseas.

Just looking at the earnings outlook, earnings now, and who knows what is in the pipeline it seems like a good play to me.

AS a fellow canslimer, you will want to stop all your losses by 8%. So with all of your stops in there it looks like if you aren't right you won't lose a ton. Though most good IBD stocks are well extended from their base and IBD's current market view is that this last rally is under pressure. So by sticking to the stern sell rules you'll live to see the next rally.

The people who know GOOG best are it's founders, and they are selling big time. I wouldn't make it a habit to buy into companies where insiders are dumping, even if as in GOOG's case, they disguise it as a secondary offering. It's just a sneaky way of changing the value ratio on their own shares to more cash, less google.
