My sister's 13th birthday was a couple of days ago, and she got a freakin iPod. I remember my birthdays growing up, and I got $50 worth of toys (if I was lucky) and some Hanes tighty-whiteys.

Which got me thinking about my favorite toy growing up. My Optimus Prime Transformer. Oh man I would play with that thing for hours.

What is 00t's fav?

Really young = a rag doll that I was absolutely infatuated with. Yeah, whatever, [censored] you guys.

Less young = Sega Master System.

If I had to narrow it to one, it would probably be Hot Wheels. The kind with the orange track, not that stuff they have nowadays. Powered by gravity. Given a huge basement, scrap lumber, and a hot summer day, many an hour was spent in the cool basement, setting up awesome race tracks and having raceoffs between all the cars.

The Evil Kneivel Stunt Cycle.

Legos were definitely the coolest. Too bad they turned into pre-manufactured crap. That was the charm of legos, turning them into whatever you wanted, not being forced to build a lame pirate ship by putting together hull part 1 and hull part 2.

Yes. I must have went through 4 rings because of this. Also, the steel cage add-on was a must, though it was pretty hard to move the figures with it attached.

Here was my favorite figure, Cpl. Kirschner. He was a nobody, but he was the star of my fed. Yes, I had a fed. Belts and all.

Atari is definitely up there for me.

One I haven't seen mentioned is the Raw Power. You put it on one side of your handlebars in place of the grip, and you could rev your bike and make it sound like a motorcycle. I thought it was the coolest thing ever.

Oh yeah -- Tonka trucks. The ones made out of metal. We used to have demolition derbies in the garage -- just ram them together from about 15 feet apart. Those things were tanks.

50 bucks was my top end, if I was lucky, too.

Favorite toys: the, big all metal capguns that looked very realistic. The ones that looked like old cowboy six-shooters. Those things were insanely cool. Cap gun shoot-outs with and raids on other kids was unbelievable fun, and so were quick-drawing contests. Total gas.

Matchbox cars were also really great.

And G.I. Joes and other posable dolls. There were some astronaut ones that were incredibly cool.

Of course, nothing beats a bicycle, except maybe a puppy, but you only get so many of those; once you've got one, you're set for a long time.
