I just got back from a game held at a guys house who is friends with one of my friends and he invited over a buncha people he knew. These were some of the most horrible players ive ever seen which is fine and dandy and all... but just the conversations and attitudes of some of these players made me want to vomit.

Players talking strategy and trying to justify suck outs and then being worshipped by their peers as being great players. "Omg im scared to play with that guy he's just so good and always takes our money." This is the same guy who would call all in on the turn with a one outter when he's obviously beaten and then get extremely lucky and strut around like he's a poker god. The table I was playing at was a fish tank. I'm very rusty when it comes to play with very fishy players because i havent done it in a while but it felt 100% like a .25/.5 limit game on party poker. At first when I got to the game I tried to play my usual game, you know open a pot for a standard 4x bb raise with AK and continuation bet if only getting one caller pre flop. Didn't work.. called by a guy with high card who pairs up on the turn. Every hand was going to showdown and people were reraising or calling down big bets with bottom pairs. Chasing down flush draws with one card to come and saying "I Had about a 35% chance to hit my flush on the river" as though they have a clue as to what they're talking about.

It was just annoying as HELL to hear them talk about how good so and so is when he was awful and hear them talk about how "Yeah we should call over XXX, he really sucks and we can take his money easily". I wanted to say "are you f*cking kidding, you are the most awful player ive ever seen.. getting your money in with the worst of it and sucking out doesnt give you the right to act like you're good.. you're not" but instead I was just polite and smiled. I mean no point in berating the fish right?

Then the topic of online poker comes up which I already knew the opinions were going to be before anyone opened their mouth. About 4-5 kids ofcourse say "That sh*t is rigged". I wanted to say "Playing the way you play theres no chance in hell you will win, so i'm not surprised you lost" but ofcourse I didn't say that.

Players would blurt out after winning a huge pot on the river to a 2 outter "Yes im finally winning again, i was on a losing streak for a while but I think im getting better now". Does anyone NOT get annoyed hearing this? I actually found alot of what they said to be funny as hell but annoying too... I ask one of the kids is he up money overall in poker he tells me "yeah i win like lots of money and think im a winning player". This is the same guy who got busted on the night moving all in pre flop with 8/9 after a raise and reraise in front of him. Anyone ever been in a game like this where you just have to bite your tongue and listen to how ridiculous it is? I wanted to just tell some of them "Why are you belittling someone elses play and thinking you're good because you got lucky, you suck and have no understanding of the game". But instead, I just let the fishes believe what they want and enjoy their short term luck while it lasts. Oh and incase anyone is wondering, i played TAG at the table initially because i really dont know the best way to play against these types of players and finally tripled up when getting AK. Some guy limps ahead of me, i raise.. guy after me calls.. the limper then pushes all in, i call.. guy after me pushes all in.. i got the right price on both calls and they flip up A/10 and AQ.. the limper reraiser all in had A/10. And at the end of the night two of the players were talking about making plans to go to Atlantic City and own up the poker tables... oh how much i'd pay to see their expression when they go there and get beat by some professional player like Nick Frangos while he's at work (AC) and wonder what they did wrong.

Yes I am done venting.

Yes it does. The people I play with live locally really aren't much better. They tend to be a lot more quiet, here, but I see a lot of the same stuff. As far as them going to AC, encourage them. Heh... Restock that aquarium.

I don't care what they say as long as they are giving
me their money! I listen for that kind of talk cause
that's a good indicator of their poker skills!

I know someone who constantly brags how he played a few hands with Chris Moneymaker at a local bar. Like sitting at the same table as Moneymaker somehow makes him at Moneymakers level or something. I have to constanly remind him on his loss.

Funny hand last night. I blew it early losing most of my stack when I had trip aces to 10's full against 1 guy that's a maniac but that's neither here nor there.

(Start with 50 chips each and we had 5 players)
Blinds are 1/2 and I'm first to act with Q /images/graemlins/club.gifJ /images/graemlins/club.gif and 8 chips, so I just shove it in.
First guy folds, Button Calls, SB calls, BB calls.

Flop is Q /images/graemlins/heart.gif 8 /images/graemlins/heart.gif 4 /images/graemlins/heart.gif
SB immediately moves in for 40 more chips (pot being 32) and sidepot is dry. BB goes into the tank and says, I KNOW you don't have the flush, you just have a Queen and are trying to protect it. I've got you now. I call. Button immdiately calls as well and puts the BB in for his last 10 which he calls.
SB: 3 /images/graemlins/heart.gif 3 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif
BB: Ace /images/graemlins/spade.gif 8 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif
Button: A /images/graemlins/heart.gif J /images/graemlins/spade.gif

Turn: 8 /images/graemlins/club.gif
And the BB who called the SB's "bluff" queens with his pair of 8's goes nuts. River is a blank and he is beside himself congradulating himself with his steller call. Just have fun and laugh about it later. If you're not playing with your friends smile and take their money. If you're in good company its as much about the company as the game.

(please don't flame me about bad beat story cause its not I wasn't a favorite to begin with and my part is pretty irrelevant to the story anyway)

The other night at St. Croix casino in wisconsin this dork is bragging about how Caro's book has helped him read people. Says he can ask people a question and get a read whether they speak or not.

Later we're in a hand together and he asks "Do you want me to call you?"

I say "Sure!"

He calls, I show my full house and take the pot down /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

It annoys the hell out of me.

I was at the Gata last week and some old Russian guy showed down A6 to my A4, we both had aces but our kickers didnt count.

He started bitching to the people around me how that isnt right, how he had the better hand and should have won, and then about how Holdem is a total crapshoot and how 7-stud was a real poker game (of course all of the fat old waste-of-life men at the table agreed with him on that) and then he started rambling about poker in the 1920's (he could not have possibly been more than an infant in the 20's).

Of course this fatty bought in for 60 each time and busted about 3-4 times before he got up and left.

yes.

I don't play home-games but can imagine your scenario.
EV wise you could try buddy-buddying with them and head to AC with them.

But annoyance-wise it probably isn't worth it.

I ended up stuck talking with (rather...nodding and mostly ignoring) or overhearing an incredible number of morons on the PPM IV cruise who insisted that the cards were different online and that they always mess up the cards on you after you cash-out.

At the Mirage during WSOP time we had a player who was also a WSOP dealer. He in our dealer at the game started chattin about how obviously different the cards are online. 2+2'er that I was with joked "Party is rigged." Both of the old-timers completely agreed and didn't realize he was joking. I nudged the 2+2'er and whispered to him 'just let them go. you won't be able to win this argument.'
Old-timers talked on and on about they've played online and they 'figured out pretty quickly how to beat the games online...it's not that hard...but you can't win enough because after you do they'll change the cards back on you' and how it happened to him over and over in the few hours he played there...etc etc.

I'm more immune to the idiots than I used to be....but it still bugs me. Need to bring an I-pod for such occasions I suppose.

Spend the $200 and buy an I-Pod. It has saved me from staying on Tilt after listening to all the bull sh*t.

I was at a $4/$8 table at Foxwoods - and i am not making any claims of being good at it- but a guy sits down and after missing a draw for a flush came up with the gem of a theory "well you have about 25% of a chance on the turn and 25% on the river to hit it so that means you have a 50% chance overall"

unfortunately i had to leave before he got another chance to test his theory

Yeah, I'd have to leave too, cos I'd have lemonade coming out my nose after taking a slip to stifle the laughter, and failing.
