Fielding:

Just watching the Red Sox/Angels game. The Sox are very strong in the field (except for Manny). How the Angels expect to win with Chone Figgins at third base is a mystery to me. (Ditto, BTW, for the Yankees with Cano at second base.)

Even count:

Why do announcers insist on saying the count is "even" at 2-2?

It takes 4 balls to walk but 3 strikes and your out at the old ball game.

well andyrooney,

the count is considered even because the numbers are the same.

I'm with Andy on this one. If I'm in the batters box with a 2-2 count, I feel like I'm behind in the count.

Last time I heard that, they had Evans, Lynn, and Yaz out there.

Actually, those guys were saddled with Butch and Boomer.

In other words: never mind.

And if you're on the mound, you feel like you're ahead.
That makes it even! /images/graemlins/laugh.gif /images/graemlins/wink.gif

But wait, that means a 0-2 count is even, too,.....nevermind! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

they've been doing it forever. it's pretty much a part of baseball terminology. all the announcers know its connotation when they say it. all the listeners know its connotation when they hear it.
just go with the flow, andy. pick your battles.

Do you feel behind at 0-0?
