Rickson is a wuss and a liar. He claims he's 400-0, even though he took a loss to some guy in a Sambo tournament back in the day. He won't fight anybody. He wouldn't fight Sak after Sak completely chumped his entire family in the ring. He counts sparring, street fights, training, etc. as legitimate wins for his record.

Rickson has been out of competition for way too long to be anything more then a buy-rate pop for either Pride or UFC right now. 15 years ago he would be one of the top players at his weight class. His submission skill is better then Nog, but really I can't see how many people can beat Fedor right now. His wrestling is amazing and his hands are extremely heavy. I don't think that Rickson would beat Fedor, but of course it doesn't take much to slip in a choke or find someone in an armbar if you position them right

I saw some of the Pride fighters on Fox Sports Net tonight and they look twice as big as most of the guys in the UFC. They make Chuck Liddell look like a joke. Some guy named Nikolov or something has a deadly kick that knocks people out.

Mirko Filipovic is the guy with the kick of extreme agonizing death.

Yes, fighters in Pride are much better than their UFC counterparts. The sport is much more popular than Japan than it is here, thus there is more money in it there, so the elite fighters end up over there. Sadly, most UFC fighters get paid peanuts.

Pride is also a lot more fun to watch, though I cant really put my finger on why it is.

because UFC fighters all have the same boxer/wrestler background, doing meh kickboxing(though mostly just punching), and basic ground-n-pound style for ground fighting?

Some reasons Pride is more exciting, IMO:

1 - better fighters
2 - no cage means it's harder to lay and pray
3 - more standups of lay and pray
4 - judging focuses on trying to finish the fight, not lay and pray
5 - knees and kicks to guys on the ground are allowed

Pride lacks the cage which makes the ground fighting better.
Pride also has red cards, or whatever color they are, which deduct 10% of a fighter's pay for inactivity during the fight.
Also, Pride allows stomps to the head of a downed opponent.
Plus, the fighters are just plain better.

I think one reason is in pride if you get a yellow card you get money taken out of your payment, so the fights are very geared towards action

FYP

the loss you are referring to (ron tripp, '94) was because rickson didn't know the rules. He got thrown a certain way that ended the match(a la judo), but he landed it with tripp in an armbar and crying like a little bitch.

he also pwned masa funaki, a fighter who beat ken shamrock and bas rutten, when rickson was at the age of 42, which is pretty damn good.

he's looked up to as a BJJ god for a reason.

will post the list of 400 people he beat in a few days, my friend has a list somewhere

edited for clarity

what was the date of the funaki fight, that's a tape that I'd love to get my hands on. It had to be in pancrase, right?

Why would Rickson fight Fedor? They're different weight classes.

was gracie the guy that would wrap his legs around you and let you punch the life out of him while gracie sits there and takes it. Then after his opponent is worn down he would try to fight?

rickson was always a heavyweight, a bit on the light side, and would probably cut down to 205 now a days, but he certainly was bigger then royce who would've faught at 185 in todays weight classes

That list means nothing. He's never fought anybody in MMA that has a good record. He's fought all cans with horrible losing records. Go to Sherdog and ask about your pal Rickson.

Funaki?????

Besides, records don't mean that much in MMA. A lot of cans have good records, and a lot of really good fighters have medicore ones.

Rickson is the greatest fighter of all time. If he lost a fight, we would have heard about it. 410-0 is an amazing feat even if they were all tomato cans.

The actual site is great. It has a record of all MMA fights, can't beat that. And that record isn't impressive when you only fight scrubs and cans. He counts SPARRING MATCHES against his students and crap. That's not a real fight. Rickson is a turd.

jkkkk

meh, I've never been too much of a fan of sherdog. THey are a little elitest about MMA and can be accuesed of ignoring facts or other point of view's when it comes to things(i can't really think of anything off hand, but I haven't had the greatest experiences there).

DVD's MMA section isn't bad, but dvd posters can get really tied up in who they like and you can't convince them of anything else. I got banned from there two or three years ago that you can't compare a small wreslting promotion like Ring Of Honor fully to a big promotion like NOAH. I can go into it further as it was a real silly banning if anyone wants to PM me, dean acted like a real baby about it

That list means nothing. He's never fought anybody in MMA that has a good record. He's fought all cans with horrible losing records. Go to Sherdog and ask about your pal Rickson.

[/ QUOTE ]

Please don't bring that Sherdog propaganda in here.

First of all, Rickson beat Masakatsu Funaki who has a great record (38-11). Destroyed him, quite frankly. And he did that at the age of 41.

Rickson of course is not going to have a sterling resume of wins against top MMA talent, when MMA barely even registered as a viable sport in Rickson's days. It still doesn't mean he wasn't an amazing fighter. He took on anyone who came into his dojo and challenged him, never losing. He was undefeated in sport jiu-jitsu, world champ for something like 15 years.

With a comment like "Rickson is a turd" or "wuss" (comments that any real fighter would double over laughing at), I imagine you are right at home in Sherdog where everyone is a fanboy and trashes each other's fighters nonstop. Try to keep that stuff out of here though.

rickson is royce's older brother. ROyler is younger then royce. Helio is the father of them. Renzo and Ryan are their first cousins(I think they might be carlson's sons)
