What's a simple strategy for omaha-hi when there are 4 or less players? Thanks.

I hope others chime in on this thread.

I just lost 49 big bets in an hour and a half playing 3-4 handed O8. I guess that's what I get for trying to keep the game going. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif I guess I thought my shorthanded HE skills would translate to O8. I should have known better, I guess.

I keep typing and deleting questions and observations, but I'm so punch drunk, I just can't formulate a thought.

What I found frustrating was playing so many heads up pots (and "losing" to the rake when we inevitably split the pot); building big pots on great draws only to lose to weak made hands like bottom two pair or less; and the fact that the "average winning hand" seemed to fluctuate so greatly from hand to hand but the action remained pretty constant, making it difficult to know where you were at.

I would never play shorthanded O8, the rake is too hungry. At most casinos I've played at when O8 gets to 5 players or less you can usually get the players to agree to playing straight omaha high. And most omaha split players are horrible omaha high players.

As far as a simple strategy for playing shorthanded omaha high. There is none. Get used to playing omaha high at a full table. Then over time you can start to learn how hand values change as the players at the table changes. The biggest mistake I see people playing shorthanded Omaha hi is overvaluing overpairs. Otherwise, only help i can offer is practice, practice, practice.

Thanks for your reply.

Hardly ever get a chance to play omaha-hi (i play only online). I needed this strategy to play in the later stages of omaha-hi tourneys, where I seem to be throwing the game away /forums/images/icons/frown.gif
