Hello all...can someone explain this passage in supersystem 2:

pg. 371 in the Stud 8/b section:

Section title: 3 in the middle
Avoid split 9's, 10's and even J's or Q's on 3rd st. if you have overcards behind you. There are 2 exceptions to this rule, and they both come on rare occasions:
1. There is nothing higher than an 8 on board
2. You are low with split 8's or another low pair.
end quote

OK, if there is nothing higher than an 8 on board, how can there be any overcards to your pair behind you? I'm not sure what Todd is trying to teach me here......can anyone elaborate?

I'm real new to stud so if this question is rediculous, please keep the mocking to a minimum.

Thanks to all who reply...

all he means is only play split 9/t/j/q when there are only low cards out. not too hard.

pretty sure that just means only play split aces and Kings with the exception that you can low split pairs when there are no hands going for high out there

so I guess that means never play split 9-Q....seems about right
