I just saw a commercial for paradise poker. They have a FREE million dollar tourney.

Have any of you played this? How many people in?
How are the payouts?

Worth it to sign up to paradise?

Here's the LINK (http://www.paradisepoker.com/promotions/2005/million_freeroll/)

You have to make the final 10,20, or 30 of a 1300-2000 person freefoll to qualify for the 4000 person final.

I was lucky to get in on my 3rd try while clearing a bonus I had sitting around but there are probably better uses for your time.

I also quailfied while clearing a bonus. I'm not really expecting anything though, unless the deck decides to be a lot nicer to me than it's been recently.

The field is going to be 3,240. Top 500 get paid, but only the top 50 get money that actually matters ($500+). Pretty crappy payout for a 2-day event (unless you make it to the final 10).

I can tell you that if you do make it among the last ten you are in for a great experience. I made it in Paradise Masters I and it was the greatest experience of my life. Everything was just awsome - the hotel, the players, the country (Costa Rica) , the staff , playing poker for large sums on the beach- and the fact that everything was free!

And no - I am in no way associeted with Paradise poker

i made it in on my frist try, it wasent to hard at all.

I realize it's a freeroll. All I'm saying is that you might not want to put in too much effort to qualify for this thing, since it would be two days of tournament play for what most likely will be very little reward.

I just played the 1 am satellite and qualified on my first attempt, and I have to say I'm pretty psyched. Not only do I get to take a day or two off from work, but I get play for a MILLION dollars. The $50 payout for 100-500th place isn't great, but hey, we didn't pay to get in either! Good luck to any other 2+2ers involved!

I also played in the 1am satellite last night. After a couple suckouts, I had a good stack. It was a cakewalk after that. Qualified first try. I'll have to send my mom if I make the final table, lol.

I really hope you're not specifically taking off work just to play in this thing.

I dunno, getting in means a 1 in 3200ish shot of winning a million dollars. When are you going to get better odds than that? As for myself I tried one time and finished 31th with the top 30 getting into the tourney. That kinda hurt. I don't play on Paradise so that is my only shot.

I haven't looked at the specifics of this tourney...but I just assumed that the total prize-pool was $1-million.

Does first place pay $1-million?

Yea 1st is $1 million then a STEEP drop off, it is basically winner take all.

P.S. Isn't it 31st not 31th?

1st = $1,000,000 (plus a free vacation for two to mystery tropical location)
2nd-10th = $10,000 (plus a free vacation for two to a mystery tropical location)
11th = $1,000 12th-50th = $500
51st-100th = $100
101st -500th = $50

And on that note, do you have to pay to travel to this thing? I mean, if you do, this would be an almost sure money-loser of you don't make the final table.

Um, hit the freaking link.

Oh, never mind, it's much easier to just type whatever the hell comes to mind.

Yeesh.

From the site that's linked above: [ QUOTE ]
The 10 players at the final table will be taken on an all-expenses paid luxury vacation to an exotic Paradise location to finish the remaining portion of the tournament face-to-face in front of the tv cameras. The winner will walk away one million dollars richer.

I won a seat on the third try. Since that was the sum total of my tourney experience I've played a few times since.

I played the freeroll a few weeks ago. About a dozen hands in, I turned top set and got into a raising war with another turkey, putting us all in. All he had was a gutshot draw. He filled it on the river. All I can say is that I'm glad I didn't make it further into the tournament, wasting even more of my time.

Yeah I want to try this just for the minute chance that I'd make the final table and my dad who is utterly clueless about poker would get to go play at a final televised table.

Do you have any idea of how sweet that would be? Just imagine how much fun the WPT forum would have trying to analyize his play.

I think so.

Funny thing happened after my last post. I was curious about earning another ticket into this freeroll, since I was clearing the bonus at Paradise anyway. I emailed support about how to do this, and they said they'd be happy to answer my question if I gave them my username. WTF? They can't answer a freakin question without knowing my username? Give me a break.

You get another shot after 100 raked hands. A pop up comes up to tell you you've earned another shot.

After I was already in, and I realized that the previous ones took 3+ hours just to get to the top 30 I just went all in with a JT to leave, and got two callers. AA and 77. Ace hit the flop and I hit double runner for the straight. /images/graemlins/smile.gif Then I started playing serious. Piece of cake.
