I got a new car and I have a heavy foot. Who has a radar detector or who can reccommend one for me. Do they even work? I heard some pay for a ticket if you get one? Obviously points are an issue but I dont know NOTHING about them in general.

I live in Rockland Cty, NY if that matters.

I have this one. (http://www.rockymountainradar.com/product_detail.sstg?product_code=8236f1654842443a)

It is a detector and a jammer. I drive like a maniac and haven't got caught yet.

But when you do get caught, you can count on a 2438974975x larger fine.

If I get caught, I'll deserve it.

the one you're talking about that pays your ticket is valentine's or valentino's or something like that.

apparently its the best one? i have no clue as all the money i would have spent on a radar detector is now going towards paying off over due speeding tickets. whoopee.

i got nailed twice in 7 days resulting in two arrest warrants after failing to pay the fines.

i live dangerously.

Valentine One is what I have. Amazing detector. The arrows that tell you where the cops are work amazingly well, as does the count of the number of cops. I have had my ass saved a few times when it went off and I passed the cop. The detector told me that there was one behind me but told me that there was another one still in front of me. Definitely saved my ass.

The Valentine One has smoked every single radar detector in reviews for some time now.

Yes! Step on it when they are on to you! You can outrun(/drive) them. Preferably by emptying your uzi at the same time. You rock. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Does this work on laser radar? The highway patrol on Oahu apparently use laser. I've got an order in for "Blinder M-20 Xtreme" based on the reviews I read here (http://www.radartest.com/article.asp?articleid=8502).

Driving from Texas to Vegas to California to go to the 2005 Rose Bowl we mounted a valentine one in my car. We covered around 1000+ miles on the trip, and then double that for the return trip home.

Every single time we got a blip on the V1, sure enough the cop was down the road. Its coverage range is amazing. We must have seen at least 20 different cops on our trip. Plus the v1 also has a new remote adapter. So you can have the seperate piece light up where you set it on your dash, but the v1 hanging on your window doesn't light up, making it nearly impossible to see from inside the car.

So yeah, get one.

The way LASER works... usually by the time anything can detect it it's too late. So yes, they detect laser but it doesn't do you much good because laser doesn't scatter like radar

The Valentine One is hands down the king of radar detectors. I used a Passport fairly regularly when I was younger, and just two years ago bought a V1. It's now hard for me to imagine not having the directional arrows that are exclusive to the V1.

Seriously, in every legitimate test, V1 smokes the competition. You will pay more for it, though.

That's pretty zen.

Try maintaining that when you're eventually-because it will happen if you drive as you say you do-pulled over

Valentine One and it is not close.

NOTE: Valentine One will not pay for any tickets you receive while using the device, as hinted by another poster above.

So how do you hide these things in your car? They are illegal yes?

Also most everyone is talking about detectors what about the usage of jammers?
