View Full Version : I gotta raise this river, si?

Villian likes to bet, and especially loves scare cards. On the flop I thought his bet out was weird and was more likely a high spade than an ace. What about a turn raise? I hate raising there tho, since i might get 3 bet and i'd rather see the river when I have outs. But the river confuses me. I want to show this down, so on one hand just calling does that. But I feel like a raise may have been better. He most likely doesn't pay off w/ out a spade. But it might get him to fold a low spade, correct? And I think i'd have the balls to fold to a 3bet.

I'd raise the flop, but I'd play it the same way in the later streets. I don't want to charge myself to draw or fold him on the turn. And he's not calling a hand without a flush card if you raise the river.

I don't really like raising the turn here. Is villian senselessly aggressive - what range of hands do you think he'd play this way?

I tend to think that he either made the flush or is bluff-representing the flush given your description. So I'd rather call down here than give him a reason to fold if he was bluffing on the turn or a chance to 3-bet when he's ahead (which you have to call because you have 10 outs).

Just call down and raise the river if you hit a fh or quads and call if you miss.

I wouldn't fold a lower spade.

Do you think he folds a low spade often enough to make up for the times he calls with it? Also, you say villian likes to bet, is it possible he could 3bet here without a spade?

I was wondering this as well.

I suspect that villain would call your raise for 1 more bet if he had a low spade.

I dont really see you being called by a weaker hand either, so I think I would just have called the same way that you did.

Nah, I doubt it. It's hard for a donk to let go of any flush.

so do we think this was ok then? or what are we thinking if no river or turn raise.

I might throw a raise at the flop, depending on villian's raising standards and aggression. Probably would. Other than that I just call down.

I really have no problem with how you played it.
