5 year-olds is a no-brainer. seeking suggestions for another question. one might be my own, but i might just take 2 from here.

I think in addition to the 5-year-olds (complete with good game theory content), animal survivor, MS Paint, GF Skinny Dipping, and his List Of 5 are all strong contendors.
edit: I wouldn't be upset with a good tipping question, either.

animal survivor is just kind of boring i think.
ms paint i have concerns about humor or one-lining it.
skinny dipping is another potential cold response.
the list of 5 sounds good in theory but if it's just audrey hepburn and stuff like that it will be equally boring.
out of the box (at least in terms of "not beaten into the ground by OOT") questions may be more important here. namely, ones that are geared toward sklansky and will be answered in an entertaining way. the 5 year-olds question is a slam dunk because it's funny, interesting, but most importantly it has great potential for an answer from him.

that was the first question i thought of when the contest started because i thought it would be revealing and might be funny to others if i just ask him to talk badly about me. but i might ask him if i was right in that huge pocket pair/set thread where i used simulations and he went out of his way to personally insult me. i don't really want to ask it if the question will be devoid of value for other people. if it involves that specific thread, maybe it would amuse some of the midlimit posters, or everybody on 2+2 if he actually decides that he was wrong and admits it. has that occured before?

i think i like the outlandish one more than the fight/footrace ones. i'm basically looking to get well-reasoned (hopefully OVERLY reasoned) answers to sort of ridiculous questions, get him to divulge disarming amounts of personal information, or hopefully both.
he is a teacher to us. i want it to be like running into a high school teacher at a strip club or some similar thing. it's so bizarre because they never had a first name really, they were "mr. thompson" and they were a teacher more than a person to you. it didn't occur that they were a human being with vices and interests. it's always cool/interesting to me to see somebody in such a foreign light.
if he would have such questions, i for one would be entertained by asking him about the details surrounding the loss of his virginity, for example (basics on how he met the girl, where it happened, that sort of thing). experiences with drugs if he's had any. stuff along those lines.

thank you. this is like having the opportunity to ask micheal jordan three questions and asking him who he likes as the favorite in the mrs. america pageant. it makes no sense. i wouldn't go for entertainment value for a bunch of morans, just to seem like a good guy. i'd go for what you think you could most get from someone who has a lot of respected knowledge.
i would take it as an insult if i was mat who put this together and then have to ask my dad to answer three moronic questions when he clearly has plenty of better things to be doing.

If you read that forum enough you know he dodges most questions and just makes statements, most of which are just to stir up conflict (probably for his amusement).
As to the entertainment bit, there really haven't been many entertaining questions in this thread. I would rather have an interesting question than an entertaining one that completely misses.

What makes you think this will be any different? Let's at least get a bit of personality out of the guy and see if we can get some entertainment. If you want to know the answer to some ridiculous obscure math problem, post it in The Trainwreck and you'll get some responses at least as good as what you'd get here.

In your opinion Mr. Sklansky how honest is poker relative to other competitve events. For instance, I would stake my life on the fact that If i entered a PGA event that I would not be cheated by anyone. The only variable would be player ability. I also feel this could be said of Pro Tennis, Bowling and many others (lets leave steroids out of this). Do you believe this is true of tournament poker?

i'm not interested in math, and while i clearly don't know everything about poker there's nothing that jumps to mind in terms of "oh man, i've just gotta ask him about this situation..." enough to break forum ranks. if i were in person and had his ear, i'm sure i'd ask all sorts of things, but it just doesn't seem like this is the context. they're OOT questions. if this was a mid-limit forum contest i would approach it differently. have i misunderstood the point of the contest?

Over the years he has started many math theory threads and often never provided the answer even after handreds of responses of discussion. Either ask him to go back to every one of these threads in the past 3 years and clean up the answers and his reasoning or ask him why he has had the propensity to do this.

I'd like to point out that he doesn't have to answer them. If he hasn't already broadcast over the net how he lost his virginity, I doubt he's going to now.
But yeah, it'd be neat to find out something embarassing about him, as long as it doesn't embarass someone else at the same time, or dig incredibly deep into his personal life. Mat probably knows the boundaries here the best.

I sense that all of the braggadocio shown in his posts belies a deeply unhappy man, one who thinks he has wasted his life pursuing gambling. With that in mind, I'd like to ask a question along the lines of:
'Are you happy with the path you have chosen in life? If you could turn back the clock would you pursue a more socially worthwhile career?"
I believe his answer would prove ellucidating for many members of twoplustwo.

Suppose you have a spreadsheet where down the 1st column you have something like 1,1,1,1,2,2,2,2,3,3,3,3,etc. Down the 2nd column you have A,B,C,D,A,B,C,D,A,B,C,D,etc. Down the 3rd columnm you have 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, etc.
Is there a way to use the VLOOKUP function to input 2 variables, 1 from column 1 and 1 from column 2, to return the corresponding number in the 3rd column?
The problem is that I can only figure out how to input 1 variable. So if I do a =VLOOKUP(2,A2:Cx,3,FALSE), then it only returns a 0.5 because that's the number in the 3rd column that corresponds to the first number 2 in the 1st column.
If I wanted to return a 0.7, I'd need to input a 2 from the 1st column, AND a C from the 2nd column.
Any ideas?

Correct me if I am wrong in assuming the following.
If anyone posed a challenging or interesting question anywhere on this board David would find it and answer it. And he would be sure to tell us all about his reasoning. If it was really good he might put his answer in book form and we would have to pay to get the answer. Brilliant imo btw.
So the idea here is not to come up with a great question, lots of people are trying that everyday and they fail to engage his intellect enough to get his full reasoning power focused on the question.
He is just a dude like all of us and likes simple pleasures as much as we do. Chasing girls, listening to music, making jokes at others expense, so don’t take what could be a fun relaxing chat with the guys and turn it into a test to see how great David can be when put on the spot.
The “great” questions we struggle with here in oot have no clear cut answers it is mostly just pissing and whining to make us feel better about ourselves. So it is only fair to keep it light and fun for him, as we don’t expect much of ourselves around here.
Now here a few quotes from David that I think could give us great insight as to what to ask.

The bottom line is that how logical and how whimsical you are need not be related. If you believe in the tooth fairy you are not being illogical. Unless you also believe in other facts that will lead to (using rules of deduction that you agree to) the non existence of such tooth fairy.
