Everyone knows that 1980-1989 is known as "the eighty's" and 1990-1999 is known as "the ninety's", what should the current decade be reffered to as? How about next decade? The teens?

I call this decade "The Aughts." Yes, I'm a dork.
The next, either "Teens" or "The 20-teens"

I don't know, but I've decided that I'm going to call these years ought-X (sp?) instead of saying oh-X or two thousand X, like 2003 is ought-three and right now, it's ought-five.

in about 10 years, we'll just call it "the turn of the century", but, we could call it the "Pre-teens" or the "Ohs" or the "Singles" all kinds of great names.

I heard the definitive answer of what to call this decade on the BBC the other day. The Naughties. Makes sense. Sixties, Seventies, Eighties, Ninties, Naughties.
It's only taken 5 years, but I've yet to hear anything better.

Thanks for the links, but I'd say they were neither authoritative nor did they answer, and they certainly did not authoritatively answer.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll go with "The Naughts". I just can't bring myself to say "the naughties".

i hate the ought/aught "pronunciation" of anything number-related. i'd go with "oh-ohs", "zeroes", "double ohs", etc.
