After being outed as a non-stick driving pansie, I have decided to refine my search criteria a little. Here is now what I am thinking about:
2 door
kick ass looks
has kick
few years old
automatic
< 30k
Pictures please

all i know about cars is that when i get my first it is going to take a hell of a lot to stop me from getting an m3. and getting lambo doors. maybe not the vertical doors.

well i grew up in nyc and still live here, so no need for a car right now. getting a car would be a waste of money and time, insurance and parking are expensive.
age wise, take your guess, and go lower.

Call it a hunch, but I'm going to say he's either 17 or 18 depending on his birthday.

I very much agree with this. But, I would definitely look into learning to drive stick if you end up going with a BMW. That Getrag box is just too damn good. On the same note, the automatic in the E46 3-series is a GM tranny. Your call.

in reference to other comments you might want to look into finding an older BMW with SMG, it's kind of the next generation of stick

SMG in the non-M cars were (and probably still are) crap. Plus, long term reliability might be a problem. Just a thought.
If you'd like to go with some sort of SMG-like system, go for Audi's DSG. You can get a new A3 with DSG for less than $30k, and it's a very nice car. And, it'll hang with a 330Ci (in a straight line /images/graemlins/wink.gif).
